This isn't really about prospect evaluation, it's just awesome that a popular Youtuber made a video about the Mooseheads!

Jordan Dumais now has the 10th-highest points per game season in the last 20 years in the Q. Names ahead of him include Crosby (x2), Radulov, Drouin (x2), Lafreniere, and Mantha.

I've been a huge fan of Jiricek since the U18s in Texas in 2021, but also super cautious about him partly because he is so unique. Having not watched him in a month I somehow defaulted to thinking of him as a very flawed skater with a lot of warts. And now I just watched his WJC tournament compilation and was blown away again by how great he was:

He is great, right?

The one thing I'll maintain caution on is that he might not be able to play a big minutes role in the NHL next year. Preferably < 20 minutes. He is super active but not a fluid skater and not the strongest in the legs yet, so he wears himself out. Well managed I think they'll limit his minutes, I wouldn't mind third pair and #1 PP. :D

If his wrist shot release and lateral passing ability from the point will be at about same level as it was in WJC, I hope they could find a temporary guy for PP1 QB job until his puck skills are refined. As seen in the video, Jiricek was having trouble getting pucks through on the PP at times and didn't move puck to Sale and Kulich very quickly. PK players in the NHL are going to be even more aggressive, smarter and organized in defending, allowing him less time and space to work with.

But if Jiricek is otherwise NHL-ready, and next season appears to be another non-playoff year because of garbage-quality roster, then I wouldn't be against the idea.

His backwards skating and pivoting need work IMO.

Seth Jones is kind of similar, and as a result plays his gaps too far back (isn’t able to recover in time) so it results in a lot of controlled zone entries against - however Jiricek is much more aggressive at the blueline so maybe the gap/backwards skating won’t be as evident.

To answer your question, yeah he’s pretty good.

How does Laf go from that insane season to be a non factor in the NHL? He’s got the size too
Because the NYR want him to play like Kreider, yet he’s not that type of player.

People tried to force Tage Thompson to be something he wasn’t, look at him now.

Yeah I hope he can greatly improve the pivots, but i also think if you gave Seth Jones the anticipation, vision, and intensity that Jiricek has that that would be an elite player. I wouldn't mind seeing that!

Jiricek has such a good temperament for the game. He's obsessed with hockey and works to be the best in all aspects. From interviews it seemed that Seth isn't that into hockey.

I tend to think Laf just matured early. The skills package stopped improving when he was about 17. When you watch him now there's just no signal of an elite talent. You would never know he was drafted even in the top half of the first round, let alone 1st OA.

Tage on the other hand would have been frustrating because he would give you glimpses. I think Byfield is more like Tage, it's obvious watching him play that he's a unique talent.

Is Dimi still <190 Lbs like all the sites have him listed? If so, I am concerned he just doesn't have enough thickness to play the style he prefers while playing in the NHL. Maybe it works in the KHL but the NHL?

Last I saw he was around 195lbs. It's his skating that will limit his NHL effectiveness, not his size in my opinion

If you look at his shoulders , hands , neck , he’s a thick kid , and he’s 22 yrs old .. I wouldn’t lose sleep over his size

It worked in WC too and very. Besides he's agressive. I think one is better than Chinakhov and Marchenko.

Well... The Athletic has the CBJ prospect pool as a top 5 pool. Not sure where yet but Scott Wheeler is down to his top 5. I'm interested to see who's actually part of his list. I know the Russians have all been advancing very well and most are 20 or under.

Shame about Jiricek missing the AHL ASG. Would've been a cool experience for sure (I guess not really comparable to the NHL one but still). And super interesting if we get to see Voronkov on NHL ice this season!

Well if he lives in Halifax... Was great to see though! I'm always amazed at these great facilities that the non-NHL leagues have over in North America (or specifically Canada I guess). Finland has exactly three arenas that are over 10k, most of the top league arenas are between 5000-7000 capacity. Some are nice/new/renovated though. (And the same is true for Sweden and the Czechs.)
