Dumais is currently on the 9th best points per game pace in the Q since Crosby's '04-'05 season. Some NHL "misses" in there, sure, but those guys were almost exclusively 19 or 20 year olds. Very mew misses in this stratosphere if a guy is 17 or 18 scoring at that pace.
It'll be so stupid when we still send him back there next season, but I don't think there's other options. Doubt he makes NHL yet due to his size, and cant send him to AHL.

Maybe a small chance he'd be down to play in a French speaking city in the Swiss league?... but probably not.

They could send him to my favourite Swedish team, Brynäs. They sure need all the help they can get and Boumedienne did coach them for a little while. 😉

Edited to add that he stopped 24 of 25 shots in the 3-1 win. The opponent is the last place team and one of the worst goal scoring teams (hey they are the CBJ of the KHL) but its his first win against the big boys.

The Athletic posted today Pronman's midseason update to the ranking of NHL players and prospects under 23 list. I don't quite get what the point is of making a composite list comprised of both NHL players and prospects who haven't even signed an ELC yet, but sure. Also 154 ranked players is extremely random.

We've got nine:

20. Jiricek
28. KJ
50. Marchenko
61. Sillinger
88. Mateychuk
107. Boqvist
115. Svozil
140. Voronkov
143. Knazko

We've also got one honorable mention with del bel Belluz. Interesting Dumais doesn't even warrant that.

(As for the rest of the Metro, Jersey's got eight but their top four are all above 40; Pitt has just two; Washington has two plus two more honorable mentions; Rags have five with both Kakko and Laf ranking pretty high still; Islanders also have five with their highest at number 11; Carolina has five including fourth overall Svech plus an honorable mention; Philly has just three and their highest is Gaultier at 49. Of other likely Bedard lottery teams, Anaheim has 7, Chicago has five and an honorable mention, Arizona has seven and an honorable mention, San Jose has three plus three honorable mentions, Vancouver has three with none in the top 100, and Montreal has eight plus two honorable mentions and Logan Mailloux who got his own paragraph about how he doesn't count. Buffalo has the most overall with eleven including the first overall and four in the top 20).

Having 9/154 is pretty good.

But yes it's always amusing to see how stubborn Pronman is. He makes up his mind when these kids are 17 and he sticks with it. Kind of foolish in my opinion. Scouting is somewhat of a crapshoot and you should expect to change your mind as the players surprise you.

My primary issue, well two... you brought the first up with the nothing for Dumais. But, to me, the fact Knazko is seen as a higher upside player than Ceulemans is a little mind blowing to me. He lead Wisconsin in points as a freshman on a terrible team. was a top player for them and by all accounts (outside of Columbus) was quite the player the last 2 months of the year after adjustment. He's continued to be a leader on that team this year and has a pretty good tool set. I don't see him slotting in behind Knazko based on potential or otherwise. That's not to say Knazko is a top 150 guy for U-23, however, if he's up there, I have a hard time thinking that Corson shouldn't be. That Wisky team is awful and he's played pretty darn well.

IIRC, Pronman’s concern with Cuelemans was the lack of structure at Wisconsin. Ceulemans has free rein to do whatever, and go wherever on the ice, and really isn’t required to play defense.

That way of playing will not translate to the NHL (not saying he can’t adjust his game).

I’m looking at 2022 draft top 6 selections this season and I think there’s a decent chance Jiricek will be the best of them

Don't teams have the contract rights to European players for four years after they're drafted?
If they're drafted in their first year of eligibility. I think Johannesson was drafted in his 3rd year? If that's true I think they would have only had 2 years ownership of his NHL rights. I could easily have some of that wrong, I can't remember the specifics.

As for Voronkov, I wonder if he can develop into our own Tom Wilson
i view voronkov more as an early-career nick bjugstad type but better at utilizing his physicality.

bjugstad's career took a bit of a dive after florida traded him (and i think he had some injuries before that) but when he first came up he was sick.

was a ~25 goal, 40-50 point kind of guy for a bit and a legit 2C (albeit maybe on the lower end) with 'unicorn' traits (mix of size/reach, skill, goal scoring and snarl) where he played above his stats similar to a josh anderson kind of guy.

they relinquished rights to johannesson and karlberg over the summer, actually. a bit different than not offering a contract.

neither guy was particularly dynamic, neither plays a premium position, and both lack size. jackets also had an influx of assets after the 'rebuild' started.

it's either a product of the jackets not being happy with their development (compared to other prospects options like christiansen/berni or pyyhtia/tfw) or it's them not wanting to play in the AHL and not seeing a big NHL future.

to be fair, there are a lot of guys (even in recent CBJ memory) who have come over from europe at a later age and showed that they can be NHL guys (bjork, hofmann, lehtonen) although obviously the latter two went back shortly thereafter.

To be fair, Johannesson hardly got any playtime for Rögle for whatever reason. Brynäs actually gave him a chance and he has been very good for them. But that doesn't mean that he is a good fit for the Blue Jackets.
