My fingers are crossed that he stays in college and gets a chance to play C the entire year since they are losing so much talent. He can start learning to play that position more specifically while also knowing he's probably better than most of the players around him. Give him the lowest possible learning curve to ease into being a center, then the year after to the AHL as a C.

Of course, we can't force his coach to put him at center. We need Jarmo to show up at his office and give him the "Nice hockey program you got here. Be a real shame if something was to happen to it".

Theres no reason for him to stay in college. he isnt going to get much bigger, they aren't interested in playing him as a center. [MOD]

Jarmo has stated in many recent interviews that these young guys all have talent but lack in strength. Johnson will play less games in college but can continue to condition and get stronger. He also should get a chance to play center next season which they may want him to play. If he goes back to college it also takes away the temptation to bring him up too soon. If I sounds like I am tired of players getting rushed to the NHL before they're ready...... it's because I am.

some people just never get stronger, no reason to stunt his development by having him play college again. none.

if you are training and not getting stronger its because your training habits suck, poor diet and/or bad sleep schedule.

College hockey wouldnt stunt his growth, especially when the talent around him leaves and he becomes the player defenses solely focus on.

He'll probably be in the AHL/NHL next year but another year in Michigan wouldnt be a waste

Which is part of the reason that's been stated for leaving him in college. With his size, he'll need to develop skills to avoid hits - speed, shiftiness. Which he can do in college where the number of games is lower and the games themselves are generally less physical.

How is leaving him in college guaranteed to "stunt" his growth? He ain't exactly head and shoulders better than everyone he plays against such that he can't learn anything. It's just as likely that he comes up a level, struggles game after game and starts to get frustrated or fearful of being hit.

There were three that Wheeler didn't include that surprised me a little. The most surprising was Nikolai Makarov. CBJ brass really like him and from what little I've seen and read he sounds like a true late bloomer and sleeper. The other two would be Martin Rysavy, who has played reasonable well for Moose Jaw (1st year adjustment) and Ole Bjorgvik-Holm (who played very well as an 18 year old in limited AHL time last year). Not saying they light the world on fire but all three, to me would seem to have some level of upside/intrigue based on their skill sets. Later round picks so easy enough to not include but I'm going to continue to watch Makarov. I think he could be on a similar path as Gavrikov, late bloomer that will become an actual NHL contributor based on his attributes (maybe not in Columbus).

Also, Chinakhov and Sillinger likely don't make this list next year so a "drop" would not surprise me even with a good draft again, however, that drop won't be significant given the high picks coming in... With hopefully more to add at the TDL.
Doubt we will have a drop with two top 10 picks

I think Johnson's development would be better served in Cleveland next year where Jarmo & Co. could dictate what they want Johnson to work on (which hopefully involves actually playing center) but I would have no issue with him going back to Michigan for another year. He'll have access to really good strength & conditioning programs under either scenario. It's just a matter of Johnson wanting to sign his ELC and make some money in Cleveland or go back to Michigan and be a year closer to a college degree. There's nothing wrong with either option.

The one thing I don't want to see is Johnson in a CBJ sweater to start the season just because he's one of the four best centers due to a lack of choices. I don't think he's NHL ready and while he would no doubt put up points just based on raw talent I think he would be in over his head and not actually develop any.

I just watched this game. The Pats are terrible.

I expect they'll load up for Bedard's draft year next year, so it should be a lot more fun for Svozil if he stays there. #1D by then too, as Evans is probably gone.
It will be interesting to see how CBJ will handle him if Pats fail to make the playoffs. Regina's final regular season game is on April 17th and Cleveland will have 6 more games in their schedule between that date and the end of AHL regular season. If Monsters are still in the race at that point, Svozil could gain some valuable experience playing with Monsters against AHL competition. That could also be used as a small sample to measure his readiness to make the jump from WHL to the next level.

He's 19 years old and I see zero reason to see where he stands at this point in his development against AHL players. Get some rest, let the body heal and then begin off ice strength and conditioning to get ready for another season in juniors. Please stop the fast track of rushing our prospects to the NHL (Sorry to pick on your post as I am still on my rant).

I understand your concern but that's his wish (and maybe organisation's wish too?) according to this:

I don't blame the player but I'm very close to starting to rebel against Jarmo and whatever his "plan" is with this young team but thats for a different thread.

OT but in my thoughts: Where has JD been? Why did they bring him back?

He was Canadas best player at the Olympics. I think he’s pretty decent at avoiding hits and the like.

Anyway, Johnson was back in the lineup last night to play Notre Dame. UM lost, and none of the guys who went to the Olympics looked that great. I expect them to be much better tonight. Game is on Peacock at 6pm.

Ceulemans is one of my favorite prospects, and I know he needs to work on the defensive side of his game. But if YOU are unaware of it, here’s him getting walked by a Wild prospect

I do think he was dead tired and at the end of his shift to be fair.

Is Kevin Shattenkirk a good NHL comparison in terms of overall play? Does he seem to have better defensive awareness?
