I was very disappointed in Knazko’s performance. I have seen very little growth in his game from when he played at the WJC as a 17 year old to his play as a 19 year old. If we are ranking how our defenders did at the tournament I’d have him 4th behind Nemec, Stacha and Petrovicky. I guess I’m expecting too much, but he’s our only drafted defenseman and made numerous mistakes, one of which cost us a goal against the USA. The only time he looked good was in easily situations, aka the powerplay. And even than he can’t shoot, so he gets into these positions but can’t do anything with it. I can’t say I’m surprised, he’s been in the Finnish u20 league for like 3 years straight. That says enough.
I think he was good against the USA in all but bad against Sweden. Too soft, what was a reason why he couldn't regularly win the pucks around the boards, he had some mistakes in defense, under pressure (sometimes against the USA too) sometimes had problems in transitions, wasn't too agressive. If he won't improved his physical play, agression, I doubt he can play in NHL.

If you have it Michigan is on B1G right now vs Umass. Johnson just got a primary assist after making a hit and taking the puck away from a defenseman.

Thanks for the heads up.

UMass is my grad school so I'm rooting for them in this matchup.

Johnson seems to still have a hard time with this whole "blue line" thing.

I'm still excited to watch him develop but it looks like we are years away from him being a big contributor at the NHL level.

what you mean by this?

He gets stopped at the blue line. He’s way better at transitioning the puck when he’s moving, but at times he’s stagnant on the board between the red line and blue line, and when he gets the puck in that position and tries to enter the zone it is much more difficult.

He needs to get that basic "gain the zone and button hook" thing down. Right now it looks like he is facing pressure then trying things before he crosses the line, and then either getting stopped or putting his line offside.

I called it basic, obviously its a really hard thing to do and most players can't routinely gain the zone with that kind of ease.

Of cue, for Jackets fans tuning in, Johnson gets the GWG on a great feed.

????

Really, Texier at 127? Is this supposed to be accurate? This must be how Pronman ranks players:

Maybe it's the matching size, handedness and playing position along with more moderate point/season totals that make me still think of Jordan Staal as the best comparison.
