Two years ago, Cody Eakin was dealt to Kootenay for no less than 8 pieces. The results? The Kootenay Ice won the WHL, but then were the first team eliminated from the Memorial Cup tournament. A proud franchise that has been competitive every single year (seriously, always at the top) is now struggling to even keep afloat after dealing away their entire future for what turned out to be a failed Memorial Cup run. Cody Eakin turned pro after playing only 45 games for the Ice.

For a Ryan Murray deal to take place out of Everett, I'd have to assume the bounty would be even higher, as he is so important to helping out not only now, but also in bringing along the youth, that the 'Tips would be downright crazy to expect anything less.

The bounty for Eakin: Forward Christian Magnus, prospects Ryan Bloom, Jarrett Zentner, Colby Cave, Stephen Myland, and a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round bantam pick.

While none of the roster players have turned out to do much for the Swift Current Broncos, WHL teams are absolutely built by the bantam draft. There's no telling what Kootenay ultimately gave up - or who they may have taken - with those picks.

I'm not saying he wouldn't cost a little bit, just want him to go to a competitive team, so I can watch him on tv more than the WJC.

I don't think he'd cost as much as Eakin though and here's why. Everyone knows that once the league starts back up, he's gone(of course for him to get traded would probably mean no NHL this season anyways, so) so whoever would be trading for him knows he's a "one-&-done" player, thus a little bit of a lower value.

Take for example the Seth Jones deal, in which a lot of folks were surprised by how much the 'tips got for him(18-year-old defensemen Reece Willcox and Ben Betker and 16-year-old forwards Tyler Sandhu and Mitch Skapski). because of not only the NCAA factor, but he too is viewed as a "one-&-done" person.

So the question is, do the 'tips keep Ryan for a short playoff run, or do they trade him for a more "potential" future? I'm hoping for the later cause I'd love to see what he could do in a Memorial Cup playoff.

The twist to the whole scenario is of course the WHL trade deadline, which is in January. At that point, if the NHL has not reached an agreement (or is at least close or hoping to save the season), it'll be set in stone that Murray will be staying in the WHL. Should that be the case, the Tips would absolutely be able to ask the moon for Ryan Murray. There would be no reason not to - he won't be back with them either way next year, yet they also won't have anything to lose by hanging onto him, as they know they will have him for the remainder of the year.

It's no secret that they're rebuilding, and for them to get major assets for Ryan Murray would certainly be worth it. It's definitely not out of the realm of possibility, but there are a lot of factors in play.

Pretty much what I was going with as well. NOt sure what teams would be factors for him(as I only watch maybe 3 CHL games a year) but could you imagine a D-line of Jones, Pouliot, & Murray in Portland? It'd be like to Avs in 2001 where U got 3 defenseman playing 30 minutes a night and the other 3 playing like 7.

Truth be told, once you factor in Troy Rutkowski, Tyler Wotherspoon, and Josh Hanson, alongside Pouliot and Jones, the Hawks have probably the best top-5 in the CHL. They don't really have a need for Murray, nor could I see them pony up that kind of assets when they'll be on the major decline after this year (no less than 4 of those defensemen will be moving on, as well as Ty Rattie, starting goalie Mac Carruth, and a good chunk of their forwards).

After struggling through 3 dismal last place finishes in the WHL, I don't see them dealing away a handful of young assets for one playoff push. I could be wrong, though.

My bet is an Eastern Conference team making a push at him. He's from Saskatchewan, and with Saskatoon being the host team for the Memorial Cup this year, there's a succinct possibility that they take a good look at him. That might be a bit muddled as well though, as the Blades did blow their wad in trading for Brayden Schenn two years ago (just after the Cody Eakin trade), giving up HUGE assets in bringing in a hometown player. The host team always wants to put together a team capable of winning, and the Blades have shown early on that poor results won't be accepted, as they've already made a handful of trades through the early part of the season.

It's a long season, and either way I think it's great that he's developing while playing big, important minutes. There would be nothing worse than watching him either sit on the bench or in the press box in the NHL, if you ask me.

Murray 1st Star in Losing Effort

http://media.whl.ca/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1009124

The Kamloops Blazers continued their torrid start to the season, downing the Everett Silvertips 3-2 in a shootout tonight. Ryan Murray had an assist, went for a -2, but was named the first star in his home rink. The Blazers' top line of Bozon-Smith-Lipon once again factored in the offense, scoring both goals (they are the top three scorers in the entire league), and Murray was tasked with playing against them all night. The Blazers are averaging nearly 5 goals per game, and have won 16 of 17; with each of those players averaging at least 1.7 points per game (Lipon has nearly a 2.5 per/game average). I think it would have to be considered a success that he held those guys in check as well as he did. Another thing of note is that the Silvertips' back end is short due to a suspension to second pairing shutdown defender Nick Walters.

Murray for the season:
16 games, 2 goals, 13 assists, even rating, 12 PIMs. He is currently on a 7 game point streak, tied for the longest amongst defensemen thus far this year.

Dansk is playing behind a very young and not very good Erie team. And factor in this is his first exposure to the smaller NA ice. His numbers will not be very good.

Dansk did play for Shattuck-St. Mary's a few years ago, so he has played in NA. However, Dansk didn't have a goalie coach for the first month of the season at Erie and they seem to be a bit of a mess of an organization.

Dansk is showing improvement. In 3 games in September, he had a 5.47 gaa 0.873 save %.

In October, 9 games 3.04 gaa 0.915 save %.

Dansk is seeing a lot of rubber and the only way Erie wins is him standing on his head and making 40 saves.

Anton Forsberg has been playing well for Södertälje but they are a very good team now with a some NHLers playing for them. It's definitely not as big of a challenge for Forsberg as it is for Dansk. Södertälje has another goalie, Sebastian Idoff, and he's doing just as well as Forsberg and it's a 1A/1B sort of situation. A lot of Södertälje fans like Idoff better since he has more experience.

and one of those October games was against an absurdly stacked London Knights team...so his numbers are probably showing worse than they should be

3rd-worst OHL team last year was Peterborough, which was 27-34-7 (61 points).

2nd-worst OHL team last year was Kingston, which was 19-41-8 (46 points).

Worst OHL team last year was Erie, which was 10-52-6 (26 points). And as I've pointed out before, simply adding a player or two doesn't turn a bad team into a good one, or even an average one.

Erie also has 15 year old Connor McDavid, who's doing very well considering how bad of a team he's on. 18 points in 17 games. He's likely the next Nathan MacKinnon type hyped prospect.

They're rebuilding with a good goalie and a potential superstar forward, but it's a young team and need Dansk to keep them in games which is difficult when he's trying adjust to the OHL.

I've heard that Dansk is going down far too early some times, not covering angles correctly, and so forth which all just show he needs better coaching and time to adjust to the OHL.

Murray Continues to Impress

http://whl.ca/schedule/show/game/61975

http://whl.ca/roster/show/id/987

Ryan Murray's hot play continued on Friday as he added assists on both Everett goals in a 3-2 loss. Still scoring at just under a point per game pace, Murray has 2 goals and 15 assists in 18 games. The Tips make their first visit to the Spokane Arena tonight, and though I don't have tickets, I will be paying very close attention to the game. My first live viewing of Ryan Murray this season will be on Tuesday, as the Silvertips make another stop here that night. I look forward to watching him up close ... it's always a treat!

The Spokane Chiefs down the Everett Silvertips 4-0 tonight, their second consecutive win against the Tips, after a 5-0 win on Saturday. Tonight, Ryan Murray was nothing less than a standout for the Tips, as he generated a lot of their scoring chances by skating the puck up the ice, or getting the puck through traffic and on net.

He went for a -2 on the evening, but it's hard to cite him for that from what I saw, as the Chiefs simply outclassed the Tips in almost every aspect of the game, particularly in hard work. The first goal was off of a poor rebound from the Everett goaltender that kicked out to the right corner and was then fired across-crease to a wide open Connor Chartier for an easy tap-in. The only player who could have made a play here was the goalie. The second was a shorthanded marker in which none of the Everett forwards seemed to backcheck, leaving Murray, his defense partner Landon Oslanski, and the goalie in an odd-man situation.

What impressed me the most about Ryan Murray was the same thing that always has - his puck poise. I can remember at least 5-6 times when he single handedly broke out of the defensive zone, gained the red line, and made a pass that would have sprung in the forwards for clean breaks had they been ready for them. He has a swagger about him with the puck that makes him ever dangerous. His one-timer surprised me in it's quickness and accuracy, and his shot in general was hard. I know I saw him wind up 6 or 7 times, but not all of those shots made it through, so he probably wound up with 4 or so shots on net. Not bad when the team only puts up 22, really.

His gap control was superb, as was his ability to close the gap if it did get too wide. He bobbled the puck and lost it on one play in particular, only to turn around and catch back up with the forward moving away from him in only a few quick strides.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask. I thought he played a solid game, bordering on great at times. I really would like to see what he could do with some skilled forwards ahead of him, as the Tips are a young team up front and really didn't seem to compete too hard tonight.

Highlights from last night's game. As you can see, Murray was left out to dry on the second Spokane goal, and on the third was maybe guilty of trying to play goaltender instead of tying up Dylan Walchuk.

I wish they would have included some highlights other than the Tips' lone solid scoring chance and the goals though, as you would have seen some of what I saw last night.

Oshawa @ Erie last night

Just from the box score; tough night for Jenner 0-0 and a -4. But a good night for Dansk stopping 49 of 50 shots. Yes that is what the box score listed, 50 shots. Erie only had 19, but 6 went in and Erie won 6-1.

Dayum. Go Dansk.

I'd been considering going to that one, but in the end couldn't make it work financially.

Back to back posts from Viqsi and her favorite Canadian hockey expert Bob McKenzie. I remember a time when the two were practically dance partners. Have you won him over yet Viqsi?

I'm sorry, you might have me confused with someone else. The last time I saw MacKenzie around here, that was during the Adam Foote fiasco. I got in on that one late and was mostly "chatting" with Avs fans. :)

This is from Elliotte Friedman's 30 thoughts on cbc.ca:

23. Hockey Canada's in a difficult spot with the world junior team because the lockout really affects it at centre. None of Mark Scheifele, Ryan Strome and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins may be available if this ends beforehand and now they've got to worry about Boone Jenner.

24. Jenner is second in the OHL with 17 goals in 22 games (Minnesota pick Tyler Graovac has 18 in 19 games). Jenner's four points behind Strome in the scoring race with 33. It's not going unnoticed and Hockey Canada's got to be worried Jenner gets a serious look in Columbus. He was taken 37th in the 2011 NHL draft.

25. Come to think of it, the Blue Jackets could really screw with Team Canada because they've also got Ryan Murray. Again, it may come down to NHL contracts. They've got five defenceman on one-way deals, all of whom can play, and their AHL team has just one regulation loss in 11 games with John Moore, David Savard and Tim Erixon on the roster.

26. Scouting report on Erixon: moves the puck, keeps his head up, makes smart plays. Still needs to improve on puck battles along the boards, though. That's his challenge, but he sure wants to prove the Rangers wrong. In two games against Connecticut, he's got three goals, six points and is plus-6.

Bob MacKenzie barely acknowleges that the Blue Jackets exist, I believe you left him speechless @ especially after someone pointed out that you are female. No worries I 'm too lazy to look up that thread.
