Andersen is under siege.

Hyman's defense is rather overrated. He's regularly losing battles on the boards against pinching d-men.

The Marleau-Kadri-Marner line is having a terrific stretch of games here.

Curious what happened to Gardiner. Need to step it up in the 3rd.
Has been forever.

People assume he's good defensively because he's good on the PK.

disagree. The line as a whole is much better defensively, they're getting tougher matchups, and they're doing better offensively. don't let recency bias cloud your judgement
I don't think it's just recency bias (even if this is 3 times in the last month), we also saw it early in the season, like the night Crosby was 80ish % possession against him. Some nights they can't handle these tougher matchups and it's showing compared to last season.

Right but with kadri now with marner that line can’t handle tough matchups either. Some times they will have an off night like every nhl player

That “slash” didn’t even look like it hit his hand.

Gardiner taking his hand off his stick while playing is pretty normal mannerisms from Gardiner.

I’m not convinced.

ok..back to Hyman..
..on the goal involving dermott , Hyman took a pass on the wing and not only didn't create anything but turned it over and a few seconds later the puck was in the leaf's net.
Was he directly at fault for the goal..no...but if he had any skill in the o zone the goal would not have happened..
That's the effect a plugger can have when miscast..
With the usual caveat...that he is a good pk'er, an excellent forechecker..a great engine, sacrifices his body etc....
But , through no fault of his own,is on the wrong line..

It would be nice to see some sort of retrospective punishment if you break someone's finger with a slash and there is no call

Hyman's been awful in the neutral zone tonight.....losing a ton of battles cleanly....flubbing breakout opportunities in his own end. If tonight isn't the game to take him off Matthew's hip for a shift or two, it will never happen.

I love the fact that in a "rough game" for the leafs at this point, they're still up 4-3 going into the third. That's what's "rough" at this point. After winning 9 of the past 11 games.

It's like the "first world problems" equivalence for a hockey fan.

Our defense lost its best player in the first. It has been damage control since then essentially

It makes me nervous. He's our second best defender and a strong playoff performer. We better be targeting something good and long-term here, in case there actually is a trade.

It was zaitsev with a AAA+++ screen

Sure I can’t remember, the shots I’m talking about are on the rush and they are shooting many times from the blue line. It’s clearly a game plan I’m just not really sure why. A to5 goalie on the league is going to save unscreened shots all day from there

While I think that somebody else should AT LEAST be tried on the line, they’re still the highest scoring line in the league.

That's what happens when you have a goaltender winning games for you time in and time out. Leafs are hanging him out to dry, big time.
