I just can't see a divisional deal ar this point in the season. The only thing that would make sense to me at this point is Gaborik + prospect and/or pick(s).

So I guess the real question is who wants Gaborik and who can afford him?

Over Tropp and/or Comeau? Yes. I prefaced my original post saying it would never happen...but to me, Boll and Dorsett bring more to the game than Comeau or Tropp, remember Dorse had 12 goals and lead the league in PIM's as well as killed penalties. The 4th line isn't making or breaking the team, but if you remember when Boll was with DMac, they were our best line many nights as well. And Dorse brought it every night. Tropp has a little offensive touch, but he goes games where he's invisible, too. It's a pointless argument because most people just want people that score goals and that's it and that's how they compare players. I would like DMac, Letestu and Boll as our 4th line. I like Tropp and Comeau well enough and they have some grit, but Boll brings a harder forecheck, keeps the other team honest and answers the bell against all comers, something neither Comeau or Tropp is going to do. So their 4 or 5 goals don't outweigh what I like from Boll.

Letestu has 3 points in his last five. Dmac has 5, and Tropp has 4. That's points in just their past five. Their "four or five" goals, is a bit hyperbolic. Tropp has as many points this season (37 games) as Boll has had in his last three seasons combined, including this one.

I actually like Boll. But I'd much rather have our current fourth line. They're cheaper, faster, more agile and can finish.

And Dorsett scored twelve goals two years ago. This season and last year he's had 14 total points.

Boll is essentially a designated fighter.

Agreed 100% about everything except this part which I assume is a typo.

I'd much much much rather have Mackenzie, Letestu, and Tropp/Skille over Dorsett.

Thank you for catching and bringing to the forefront what was indeed a typo....Money well spent for this group.

NEW YORK POST: Larry Brooks wonders if the Rangers might trade Ryan Callahan to the Columbus Blue Jackets if they could get Cam Atkinson in return. He also believes Thomas Vanek will hit this summer’s free agent market…Brett Cyrgalis reports contract talks between the Rangers and Callahan have reached a temporary halt. GM Glen Sather has apparently allowed the Callahan camp to speak with other teams as a way to try and convince Callahan to reduce his asking price. Term, not dollars, is the sticking point as Callahan seeks a seven-year deal while the Rangers would prefer five years.

Think I would go ballistic if we bring another injury prone player here and ship another one of our young players to NY

Brooks is wondering aloud simply because Kreider played with Atkinson at BC. I would flip that wondering back at him and say why not ship Kreider to Columbus so he could be with Cam. Guy's talking about of his ear, IMO. I can't imagine any circumstance where Cam is shipped out for a guy like Callahan. It doesn't make any sense.

IMO, all of this Callahan business is Sather blowing smoke trying to get Callahan to lower his asking price.

I sure as hell hope this is Brooks doing exactly what he did during the Nash run-up: being a pawn of the Rangers to try to exert pressure on someone else to shift the market in their favor.

I wouldn't trade Atkinson for Callahan in a one-for-one deal. Consider that Callahan is five years older, has most likely peaked as a 20-goal 50-point player (even when given heavy first-line minutes), is a pending UFA, has an injury history, and would cost assets to put on Nationwide ice. Atkinson has not peaked, has not been given choice minutes and yet still outproduces Callahan, has a year left on a great value contract with RFA status on the far side of it, has no injury history, and would cost nothing to put on Nationwide ice.

I'd be very upset if we traded Atkinson for Callahan. That would be really stupid on the part of the front office.

I don't agree at all. Having the most PIM isn't always a good thing. We are a better TEAM with the 4th line we have now compared to the ones we have had the last few years.

He rarely took the "dumb" penalties like tripping, hooking, etc. He lead the league by fighting all comers and getting in scrums that were generally off setting.

Atkinson better not go anywhere

He won't be, this was more Larry Brooks dreaming and thinking he has a bigger influence than he really does from what I can tell, so nothing out of the ordinary. I'm not sure if there's a person on Earth who could make JK do a deal he doesn't want to do, but if there is, it sure isn't "Brooksie".

your talking about Dorsett right? He rarely took dumb penalties? Did we have another guy named Dorsett that I'm forgetting about?

Jarmo is no dummy. He knows Sather is using him. No way do we part with Cam for Cally. I'd like to have Callahan, I really would. And I understand you've got to give to get. But Cam should not be on the table. Nor should our number one pick in '14. Now, one of our defenseman (Savard, Erixon,...), that may be a different story.

Would 6 years, $34 million be fair for Callahan?

Larry Brooks...enough said. Cam is part of the core. I highly doubt he will go anywhere and certainly not for Callahan. imo...Sather is just seeing if he can force Callahan's hand.

I wouldn't give Callahan more than 4 years and $16 million.

And look how well it worked then. :sarcasm:

Any blind fool can see that Cam for Callahan straight up is a Bad Deal for the Jackets. I'm not all that concerned.

That's more than Umberger makes, so no.

We are 11-4 since the New Year, and have one of the best prospect pools in the NHL.

And we're looking to move players? :shakehead

I don't have a good feeling about this one. Jarmo moved 3 spare tires for Gaborik last season and that hasn't worked out quite as planned. I don't know who is left to move before you get down into the meat of the team.

I guess the obvious answer is Gaborik himself.

Maybe Erixon or Savard.

I've said it many times here, but I'm fine if they do absolutely nothing between now and the end of the season. I don't know if there's been a CBJ season that I haven't wanted some change heading into the trade deadline (even last year, I wanted scoring help, which we kind of got).

I'm fine with letting this team roll, even with McBackup.

To me, the only correct move involving the current roster is to stay the course. With a team that's young and clearly getting better by the day, it would be extremely premature to start making moves. Mostly because I don't know what it would accomplish.

If the team gets into the playoffs, a deep run is unlikely unless Bobrovsky gets hot. That's not likely to change even with big names coming in. All that can be done is to ride out the growing pains of a young team, and in a year or two this could be a legitimate contender just from the current players developing.

(And screw "sending a message".)

Ask the Islanders, who had a good young team. They made a big move to get Alexei Yashin, costing them little off the existing roster to get him. They made the playoffs but did nothing...then got to watch as Yashin fell apart and while the players they traded to get him (Spezza and Chara) became two of the best in the game at their positions.

It didn't work out? Are we a worse team now than before we made the trade? No, we aren't. Maybe it didn't work out great, because Gaborik hasn't really played. But don't act like making that trade made us worse or even kept us the same. This team has A LOT of room to improve. If we didn't, we would be in first place with a great record.
