Almost Jacketesque.
Not a Bengals fan, but my wife's family is, so for what it's worth...
I've not been a fan of the idea of firing Marvin Lewis, but it's clear he has to go. I know he's not throwing ridiculous interceptions or dropping passes or fumbling, but it's clear he's not preparing his team to play its best when it needs to. Dalton was bad (again), Green was bad (again) but ultimately it falls on Lewis.
he wouldn't be out of work long

He's always reminded me of the NFL's version of Bruce Pearl. Just roll the ball out there and see what happens, and if you're down and need adjustments made, it's not going to happen.
You only fire Lewis if you promote Zimmer to head coach, but Andy Dalton is the reason for this underachievement.
Nah, reminds me of Sid Luckman in '48....

Only if you look at it from the idea of someone who's been around for a while and isn't as successful.
Luckman in 1948 was in his last full year, as injuries were starting to mount. The Bears had Bobby Layne and Johnny Lujack waiting in the wings, and both got a decent amount of playing time even though the offense went nowhere with them. The season-killing loss at the end to the Chicago Cardinals and the two close games were with Lujack and/or Layne at the helm, while the offense was moving like crazy with a past-his-prime Luckman.
I'm in agreement that Dalton has to go in Cincy. The big question though, is who is available that is better? That's why I think you'll see Dalton under center in Cincinnati next year.
Lujack, Luckman, and Layne?
OK...
Relax; it's not like we're asking Keith Jackson or Curt Gowdy or Joe Buck to call those games.
