Source? I tried to figure it based off of the CBA rules and it looked like three times that many teams to me.

Waivers is Standings in Reverse Order. On the 9th the order would have been something around 1 SJS, 2 MTL, 3 ANA, 4 CHI, then it would skip NAS, and then 5 PHI and finally in 6th its Columbus.

See, the thing is, I actually checked the CBA and it's not precisely the same as the standings. Standings are normally points total, with percentage being the first tiebreaker. For waiver claims, however, per the CBA, you start with points percentage. See post #41 in this thread from when I was researching earlier. The relevant bit:

In the event that more than one Club makes a claim for such Player, he shall: (i) be transferred to the claiming Club having earned the lowest percentage of possible points in the League standing at the time of the request for Waivers

(ii) is for exceptions in which one is outside of the regular season (we're not), or before November 1st (we weren't).

Really it depends on how one reads the CBA - it says it's based on points percentage "at the time of the request for Waivers", which I'm interpreting as "therefore, since the request was midday on the 9th, don't include games played the evening of the 9th, or after that". And on the 9th, before playing that evening the Jackets were still a .500 team. So many other teams were in consideration.

Unless you've got a League source that clarifies the CBA further, then, I feel pretty confident in saying it was more than 5 teams.

Pretty sure you have it spot on.
Points percentage as of the time the player was put on waivers (the 9th, in this case). It was Nashville requesting waivers. The other teams, such as CBJ put in a claim.

It is points percentage. The waiver order is designed to give the ‘worst’ team first crack, a team with 6 points from 14 games would have a higher priority than a team with only 5 points in 10 games, despite the higher raw point total.
