I’m sticking with my original opinion of Lindstrom’s drafting. There’s a lot of physical injuries that can be fully healed. Some just take longer than others. But I don’t put back injuries in that category as they are rarely fully healed and generally remain a question mark as to future recurrence.
He may be a great prospect and may become a great player, but IMO he carried a risk the CBJ shouldn’t have taken. Was he that significantly better than everyone else remaining?

Depends on your definition of significantly better. Skill wise? Obviously not. In potential impact in the playoffs when games get tight and physical? Absolutely

Can find plenty of examples on either side of any situation. Boston could have given up on Beregeron after major concussion problems but that turned out alright. People can focus on the negative potential if they want, I'll focus on the upside

He wasn't drafted by Boston with concussion issues. Totally inapposite .
As someone else pointed out, Vasilevsky had the same procedure last year at like 30yrs old and has recovered and is seemingly playing fine.
Different people react different obviously, but if a 29-30 year old can recover and play 2 months later, a 18 yr old kid in theory should be able to recover just fine.
A low invasive surgery with a "fairly high success rate" (meaning relieves the pain) that has you walk out of the hospital a couple hours later, return to normal life quickly and generally heals completely in 6-8 weeks roughly doesn't sound major to me

It really surprised me when I found out that the CBJ were aware of his physical problems prior to drafting him. Your argument that "was he significantly better...." resonates with me.
Hopefully the kid will fully heal and become an impact player on the CBJ and his health prior to the draft will become a moot point. If he doesn't, whiffing on a 4th overall will be a stain on Waddell and Company's resume.

It's worth remembering that if Lindstrom didn't have these issues, he probably wouldn't have even been available for Columbus to draft. Also, the rumours at the draft were that lot of teams were interested in trading for him at #4. I assume their medical staffs also looked at it.
This is disappointing news, but it sounds minor and I hope that he crushes it when he's back in Medicine Hat and that we can be excited about this pick going forward.

It comes down to who would have been a better pick at 4OA, knowing Lindstrom’s injury problem. Iginla? Probably not. Demidov? Probably yes. The Jackets aren’t exactly overflowing with dynamic, play-driving, forwards.
OK but the Jackets did know, in as great detail as possible, Lindstrom's injury problem. And they knew, presumably in great detail as well, the characteristics of the other available players. And they chose Lindstrom.
So it's pretty funny that the HFNerds are roaming around prematurely "told ya so-ing" without the same luxury of information the Jackets have.
It's like me going to the Habs board saying "Demidov is still in Russia, he only has 6 goals, he'll probably never come over, terrible pick."
Irrelevant to my post, as it happened its pretty believable. As someone who has gone through it in my 30's without the support he has or surgery to assist it I'm also less concerned
It's not "told ya so-ing." It's not the pick I would have made, because of his back issues, given the other options available, He may turn out to be the best player of the group that CBJ could have drafted, that still wouldn't change my analysis. He was a very risky pick where he was taken. Risk-taking is more palatable when there are not any other good options, which was not the case here.

If "it comes down to who would have been a better pick at 4OA" then let's revisit in a coupla years. Like with pretty much all draft picks. And then you can can tell us if you were right.
