Post-Game Talk: Cat in the Hat

It's games like today that convince me that were not winning the Stanley Cup. Our guys don't want to win it. They get by on skill but don't put in the work necessary to win tough battles. The other team has to be toothless for us to look like a contender, the moment a team resists or even skates fast that is it for us. And people rarely come up clutch in those situations. This was a playoff preview. This is a game we had to win. We were supposed to win this and catch them, and overtake them. And send a psychological warming. Instead were the ones warned that we can't skate with them. They are not even that talented but they are hungry and we have a bunch of millionaires that are just happy to live like millionaires in Manhattan and happen to play hockey. I don't see them on a mission to bring a championship to this lousy starved franchise. It's f***ing pathetic. A team that plays in a shithole in Newark who celebrates titles in parking lots has more fight than we do. I am disgusted.

You know I'm always right. Bookmark that post if you want.
I don't know if you're always right, but you have an endearing quality lol

Either that or I'm laughing as a defense mechanism for not buying whatever it is that you're cooking

Holy overreaction Batman. They lost a 1 goal game to a good team, that is all. This is not a game we had to win although it would have been nice. The games in the playoffs are the games we have to win.

First missed game of the season for me tonight - cliff notes anyone?
The usual. Bad first period, 2nd and 3rd were fine, Both goalies were good.

It’s not a lack of “want to”. It’s a lack of structure.

We have no system. Gallant is this teams Achilles heel.

Meh.

We didn't play our best game. Panarin was off, Tarasenko had some grade A chances he didn't bury, Harpur was a traffic cone on the debbies even strength goal, and Goodrow deflected Meiers shot right into our net on the PP goal. I think we can beat them in a playoff series.

Having to come back from a multiple goal deficit is like having to skate uphill. Tough to be successful against really good teams falling behind early.

Pain
Ed, that's enough.

Of the fact we can't skate the puck out of our own end?

We are too slow out of our own end as a team, which leads to poor puck support in the neutral zone and "forced" improvisation which leads to chance plays and therefore turnovers. The root problem is our zone marking system which doesn't lend itself to fast transitions with speed. Instead we have "cheating" forwards trying to get a step on the opposition in the neutral zone, but we often lose the puck in bad situations when we try to get the puck to that forward. The Devils' plan is much easier for them to support and much clearer in what they are trying to do as a forward unit.

Even if we're healthy, I'm a tad bit concerned about their speed up against our poor transition game from the D, but getting Harpur's ECHL ass out would be a huge difference.

He's like the worst things about Staal, Girardi, and Pionk had a wretched spawn.
They were the more rested team at home. And they did all their scoring at the start of the game because of that. Let's see how quick they are by game 3 with playoff hitting.
