I hope they also lay some kind of charges to the 3 others that were reported to be in the room if they said nothing. Also all the hockey Canada people involved need to be charged. Maybe even the police themselves if they were apart of any cover up. All of them should be brought up. Anyone with knowledge of this incident also if they did nothing about it.

Pretty sure that is Formenton, which is why he fled to Switzerland.
That has been my thought for a while. Connection to London, and dropped like a hot potato. Player 1 will come off looking as the biggest scumbag. On the main board, I mentioned the same thing. Apparently it might not be him. He might have been dropped because pizza guy is on the Sens and whistle blew

I genuinely thought "pizza guy" was gonna be one of the 5 charged. Even refused to trade for him in a fantasy league because of it. But this makes a lot of sense

Yeah. I think pizza guy’s reputation will depend on if if he testifies or something. He doesn’t look good being there for 10 minutes and not saying anything at the time. But maybe he did and was ignored or brushed off. Maybe peer pressure affected him. But if the story is true it probably shows him in a better light since he told, depending on the circumstances

Pizza guy…easily the most complicated and maybe interesting figure in this drama; potential hero arc, anti-hero, or villain? Lol. Either way he didn’t participate so that’s positive. Until more is out I don’t want to drag him across the coals. Everyone is always a hero in their own theoretical imaginary scenarios, but much harder to act in real life in the moment, especially when you’re a teenager

But on a legal level....if they are innocent, can they be banned still from the NHL and on what grounds? I would think the players might have a case against the NHL.
The NHL can claim regardless of verdict that these players partake in a lifestyle not accepted by organizations that cater to myriad youth fans.

Kappernick had more to go on about being reinstated, and got nowhere. These guys are done

My advice to them is to plead guilty, claim while committing the act it did not occur to them it was rape and that they honestly thought the girl was enjoying herself. But clearly upon reflection they made a terrible mistake as a teenager and are prepared to serve a sentence.

I think this route is their only option going frwd.

Out of the 5, Hart was the biggest contributor on that team, right? Would a Nike Canada rep be hanging out with players who are more in the spotlight, or would he float around?

Starting to have a bad guy feeling that if it isn’t Formenton…

One thing that is reassuring is the general stand from society here. In the past I could see the woman being shamed. Instead it’s pretty clear who is at fault.
I'll be very interested in the repercussions for Canadian hockey in general.

What sorts of discussion that will be taking place in locker rooms, in coach's offices, in boardrooms, wherever people associated with hockey and are making it a big part of their lives gather. And then we'll see what the NHL, Hockey Canada, sports broadcasters, provincial associations, player's associations, CHL, whomever, have to say, or do, in regards to what got discussed. I hope the word "culture" gets used a lot, but adjectives yet to be determined.

imagine the reactions if we traded Hart to MTL or whoever for future considerations or like a 5th round draft pick. Maybe that would have made it obvious though that Hart was involved

Is presumption of innocence a joke to you?

He isn't a court of law. He is under no such obligation. Ample evidence exists. You do not, as a regular person, have to assume someone is innocent until a court says otherwise. "Presumption of innocence" applies to how the government system will behave. It isn't a mandate upon the populace of a society, who are allowed to form whatever opinion they want with the information available.

I must say it's always creepy how the "presume innocence!" argument comes out strongest for rapists and molesters. There was no such constant reminded for Lehtera.

Sadly it's in part because these kind of trials are so often dependent on "he said/she said" that those citing presume innocence have their best chance of being able to point and yell "See, you pre-judged and the court found him not guilty! You were wrong!"

The other part of the equation I won't speculate on.
