Just an update to that, at least two people in the group chat noticed I said that lol.

My boss didn’t say anything. Even if it comes up I’ll just tell him that I always look for roles elsewhere because it’s good to see what’s out there. He’s a cool dude so I don’t think he’d care.

One of my coworkers recently thought she was texting her boyfriend and texted our boss “they want me to come in for a second round interview” so that was probably way more awkward as she texted the boss directly that she was already interviewing for another role. But he was professional about it and never made her feel badly about it or treated her differently.

Yeah my last boss at the same company kept telling everyone how we should always keep our resumes updated and keep interviewing.

So if anything, if this guy bitches about it, it’s probably more unprofessional on his side than mine.

If you don’t mind me asking, what industry are you in?

I’m not hating, lol. My dad was an advertising salesman in some local Brooklyn newspaper.

Being a software developer was cool when it was my hobby. Work f***ing killed it as a hobby.

I was a retail manager while I was in college, the pay sucked, hours sucked. Not sure if you recall the recent PGT, but was Rainforest Cafe And then I moved to Brookstone (remember Brookstone?)

Anyway my father who was an agent got me into the business, eventually bought my own agency with the money I saved. Business is pretty meh, but the income and hours are very good(lol why I can post a lot here, too much free time) .

Sadly my dreams of becoming a rock star went out the window about 10 years ago. So, stuck with the insurance. Lol.

I saw Rainforest Cafe came up but idk what anyone was talking about. Glad you left that because I don’t think there’s a more disgusting place in the world to eat.

Places that kids like + carpet = me being grossed out

God I loved Brookstone. No better store for expensive things that nobody needed that you'd never heard of before but suddenly had to have, haha. Were they the stores with the massage chairs out front, too?

Has anyone ever hit a point in their career where they feel just super low in confidence and like they're not good enough? Feels like everything I do at work I have a piano on my back while I'm doing it. And I'm getting bad reviews including being put on a Performance Improvement Plan last week. I've been told my entire life how smart I was, including by smart people but I feel like I'm not smart enough to have any sort of career success.

Maybe...

But I'm not in some super coveted role or at some super coveted job. So if I have imposter syndrome over this role then I have to say goodbye to any and all career growth.

Also, it's not like I've ALWAYS felt this way I've had jobs where I felt really good and even like a damn star. I think it's just think role at this company.

It is not my place to assume how your company works, but performance plans, typically, are the first step on managing someone out. So if you like the spot, turn it around quick and ensure there is a quantifiable metric you can hit to get out of the plan and/or start looking

I'm starting looking. I think the well has been poisoned enough that I don't think we can reconcile at this point. This kind of reminds me of something I heard. If you get another offer don't shop it to your company because they'll hold a grudge even if they match it, you'll be the disloyal employee. I feel like this is in reverse, even if I get off the plan I'm holding a grudge.

There are always outliers; anecdotally my wife was able to negotiate an offer from another company for a huge raise at her current place. And they promoted her along with the salary match, but I know, its just one example.

But your comment that YOU would hold the grudge is self awareness and you don't want to be miserable. Good luck out there, and try not to burn bridges. It's a small world.

Well I'm firmly back looking. I filled out 50 job apps today.
Does this have anything to do with the personal situation with a co-worker?

I could write a novel about what’s happened and continues to happen to me, much of it borderline illegal. All I can say quickly is that I wish my daughter was four years older so I could take early retirement, then move to the beach.

Not at all, no one in the US knows about it.

Or stop financing a 70k SUPER DUTY pickup to commute to your office job

The issues now are the Tesla's . Very expensive to replace and repair because of the parts, so the premiums sky rocket. I literally had a guy a few months ago asking why his Maserati was so high in premium. I'm like "Really"? lol.
