Necas for Guentzel was never going to happen in a deadline rental deal. That’s unrealistic expectations.
The way we're sinking, he wouldn't have helped. If you look at the totality of what we got it's pretty good. And we desperately need to build for the future.. We can miss on two of those prospects but if even one turns out it was smart move. Hopefully all of them but...

Likely gonna get a top 10 pick this year.

*1st overall 😉

And I’d rather go to bed each night with Margot Robbie than my wife but that’s about as realistic as your proposal.
They as a group don’t seem to grasp trade deadline deals and what rentals are worth. To be fair, they’ve rooted for a really good team that doesn’t do a lot of selling so maybe it’s a new experience for them. Necas, Hoglander, multiple first rounders…..it doesn’t matter that no one gets that. This trade is seriously the biggest rental haul I’ve ever seen in 20 plus years and they’re complaining.

Welcome to having a suck team I guess. We as Canes fans have obviously been there.

Ps….we never got anything like this!

Jake sign and trade gives Dubas a much stronger hand. But the return of decent prospects are welcome. Pens are beginning the rebuild here and now the goal is not getting older but younger bigger better and adding talent. Look Pens had a great run with star players up there with anyone. As Pens trade players that have value, hopefully Dubas maximizes that., The need to rebuild is just the way it goes for teams that come to an end. Pens went all in when it really wasn't the best way to go. But hard to argue the success.

Yeah cause you guys are so far out of the playoffs for the first time. In what world is taking back Michael Bunting in the trade and wanting more NHL ready prospects signals a rebuild?

Yep, Dubas is clearly going to try and rebuild on the fly which is difficult and pointless if Sully is kept on as coach.

Look the rebuild is a combo of keeping decent team going for revenue reasons and Bunting is a good fit at LW for a team in transition. Pens are not in the blow it up mode. Yes Geno and older stars are fading. But Pens with some smart moves can still be a team to be a good team. Hire a coach and better staff, Trades like Smith for a 2nd, and keep adding good prospects and picks after next season as well.

Bunting has been noticeable in a positive way so far for the Pens. Not amounting to anything on the score sheet just yet though.

Interesting peak behind the curtain on the trade from the Waddell perspective:

Trade rumors aren't just for the fans. Waddell called Dubas again to express or reaffirm interest in Guentzel on Wednesday. LeBrun speculates that it's because of the CJ bombshell about a potential Boston/Vancouver/Pittsburgh 3-way trade on Tuesday.
