What made Carolina willing to trade Bunting so quickly?
Just simply the piece needed to complete this trade or he just didn't mesh with the team?

Honestly? A bit of both took him time to adjust and still one of the worst at D on the team and many were expecting a bit more grit. He has grit like a piece of sand in the wrong place. People were hoping for a piece of sandpaper instead. He's not been bad just more meh

Skinner had a ntc clause and only wanted to play in the Toronto area. Right away that limited us to two teams geographically and it was really only Buffalo since Toronto had no need for another undersized winger who doesn’t play defence. Impossible to get value when there’s only one bidder.

Turned out alright for us, though, as the picks became Kochetkov and Nikishin.
Yep. It's a quantity-for-quality trade that worked out for the team receiving the quantity - in this case, the Hurricanes.

I’m glad Guentzel gets to play for a contender again. Hopefully he puts the Canes over the top; dude is an awesome playoff performer.

Hopefully some of the prospects the Pens got become something, but if not then whatever. Team needs to be bad for a while anyways

lol Aho just mentioned on chiclets how Bunting was lost with the new system at first. He said it light-heartedly, but it could be a bit of both- the piece needed and the Canes way really wasn’t coming naturally to him.

...and instantly among the best names in the NHL (or WWE if he chose that route).

Like. My god, how has there never been a hockey themed wrestler? I mean besides Andrew Peters.

Wow. Sorry Penguins fans. That's rough.

Somebody's GM overplayed their hand I suspect.

The Goon. Seriously.

I'm not sure why all the handwringing over this (all the NHL24 horse trading is always fun). The Pens got three good prospects and a solid mid-6 for a rental. What, really, were people seriously expecting?
Multiple firsts, not too long ago.

I think the Penquins did great. The return might seem underwhelming if Guentzel had indicated that he would like to sign an extension with the Canes but he hasn't done that. Three legit prospects and, at worst, a mid second round pick is more than I would have expected for a pure rental. Should Guentzel return to the Pens as a free agent this return will look spectacular.

Oh really? Dubas and Pens management were quite clear, and stated repeatedly, that they are interested in prospects rather than picks. Perhaps you're confusing the wild and random predictions on these boards with reality.

There were some pretty high expectations ranging from Necas, to Nikishin, to Blake and Morrow together etc. Some of that was just crazy fan expectations but some of it was driven by actual reports.

Most were expecting a guaranteed first, for sure.

It’s not a bad return but I can definitely understand there being some disappointment since none of the pieces are particularly sexy.

From the annoying fans and star players that play with no heart the Leafs are pretty easy to dislike.

These seem to be decent prospects. People always go wild in their expectations this time of year; it's fun, but silly. I'm happy with the return. In any case, the picks are certainly sexier than Jake walking this summer!

People were expecting 2 first round picks or equivalent.

Or at least one
