IMO Nino is overrated based on where he was drafted (1st rnd 5th OA 2010) Maybe not as one sided as people think.
I don't think anyone has mentioned this once in this thread. The last few years both have dealt with injuries, but Nino has had superior productivity and shot-share metrics while on the ice

I wonder if there is a connection between the common opinion that Wild are a boring team to watch and that people think Nino is any good

ah yes the HF designated "fleecing" by Carolina. I remember when the Flames got "fleeced" for Dougie Hamilton. Good times, good times

I mean, hindsight is 20/20. Are you suggesting that HF should have predicted that a 40 point player would suddenly become a 90 point player?

IMO that trade is also getting exaggerated in Calgary's favor right now. Hamilton is getting underrated because his points are down, despite the obvious reason being because he's moved to a team with forwards who are incapable of finishing, and one of the pieces of that trade is a prospect.

This is fair, I can see why it’s an easy trade for Carolina to make, but that doesn’t mean it can’t work out positively for MIN as well (not that you were saying that)

The cap space is more valuable to MIN than CAR, too

Good news is Rask is cheaper than Nino.

But I recommend investing a small amount of that savings in a personal chef for Rask.

What I've learned from this thread is that people who don't watch the Wild overestimate Niederreiter. He may be a bit better than Rask but he isn't the sort of player that a good team would rely upon to play any sort of meaningful role. Since his injury last year he has generally made the lines he's been on worse. It is possible that he (or Rask) benefits from a change in scenery but right now Niederreiter is looking like a player who will never live up to his potential.

This trade may make more sense in the near future if the Wild trade Staal for a 1st + or a good prospect or move Coyle. It is obvious that this version of the Wild is never going to be more than first round fodder. If they want to reboot they have some centers that are valuable trade assets but first they need a bit more depth at the position.

What changed in the last week or so that all these trades (even if many are minor) are happening now?

Not sure, but it seems like there is a more clear delineation between the playoff teams and the non-playoff teams (compared to prior years), so maybe some teams are trying to get in before the market gets saturated?

You can't ignore what Rask has done in the past and then point to what Nino has done as "upside"

They're both struggling players who have had better seasons in the past. Just because one appears to be better this season doesn't mean it's a clear win. If both players return to form it's a wash. To suggest that only one player in this deal can do so is nothing short of stupid, quite frankly.

Look at the last three bigger name forwards to leave Carolina. At this point, I'm not holding any Carolina forwards production against them.

I was responding to someone who was talking about Niederreiter. I wasn't trying to do a full point by point comparison of the two players.

I think the suggestion is that HF has no idea what they're talking about and probably shouldn't comment as if they do.

And I'm pretty sure the reason Hamilton is catching flak is because the new team that just acquired him in exchange for that 90 point forward is now trying to get rid of him, setting somewhat of a trend in his career.

There is absolutely zero reporting that the Canes are "trying to get rid of" or even shopping Hamilton. There are reports that other teams are calling the Canes interested in acquiring Hamilton, which makes sense as he has been a desirable asset for his entire career.

No Dougie Hamilton is and has always been overrated. Has always been carried by his partner. Was carried in Boston by Chara and Gio in Calgary. Anyways this isn't the thread for the Dougie discussion since it's been rehashed a million times on this site. I'm just saying that hockey isn't played on a spreadsheet, it's played on the ice, so there's no point in saying this team or that team got completely fleeced before a single game is played by either player on their new teams.

Lindholm never resembled anything near a 90 point player while in Carolina. He was completely underwhelming. Amazing what playing with two premiere players can do for your stats.

Nino is not good. Just FYI. Guy has been a complete anchor for awhile now. Id rather have the cheaper version of him who plays C. People here acting like Wild traded Dumba for Justin Williams lol.

Everyone seems to agree this was a bad trade for Minnesota so the only logical outcome of this trade will be that Minnesota will come out of top.

Although nino has been not great the past two years, he will add a lot more than Rask could’ve done for them. I’ve watched him for years now and have always hoped he would continue excelling but he hasn’t. Minnesota is a good team with some star power but I think nino will benefit with a fun and exciting team that is Carolina. Hopefully brind amour can make him excel. For ninos sake and my gamble on picking him up in my fantasy haha

This will end up being like the domi/galchenyuk trade
Fans overreact before they play for their respective teams
