Andersen objectively had a bad year last year, and was only OK 2 years ago. Bernier, despite being on a losing team the last 2 seasons, has been much better than his numbers suggest. On top of that, Bernier is going to cost 1.5 million less than Andersen. Maybe even more. And he's only 1 year older than Andersen.

Also letting Hamilton walk while exploring signing DeAngelo as his replacement? Oh yeah, and trading a Calder finalist goalie in Nedeljkovic for a late 3rd round pick? Yeah. The Canes are not having a great offseason.

He's been pretty bad since December of 2019. This season, he was (supposedly) fighting through injury the whole time (before the knee injury that put him out for good). But his struggles go much further back than that.

I love the guy, but he's had the single hardest workload of any goalie in the league over the last 5 years and has had the hip, knee, and groin issues to show for it. I think he's honest to god cooked.

That's a lot to spend on goalies. I would have given Ned the contract he got, and relegated him to backup in year 2 if he didn't deliver in year 1. Andersen is just unnecessary.

Hopefully he's cheap and more of a 1b for us. I didn't watch him much last year but in the years before that he was pretty good and that was behind a disaster of a defense. Have to think he'll be better with Carolina's D.

When Andersen is ON.. he's among the best in the league. The issue with Freddy isn't making the sprawling AMAZING save.. it's the 5/7 hole blunder that becomes more apparent.

This player and this signing are a perfect example of how hard it is to get solid goaltending. Both Toronto and Carolina have been chasing tending for a decade, TO, two decades. Always felt the hot take that was "you can't pay a goaling 8/9/10mm was such bunk. Anderson was shit last year and will get 5.5, a backup 2 and still not have goaltending that can win a Cup.
