Are many average 2nd liners 11th in league scoring? :dunce:

I won’t call him a 2nd liner but players can go on short extraordinary runs.

Necas was unstoppable for the first ~25 games of the season, on a substantial PDO bender. Since then he’s been pretty much in line with past seasons.

When stuff like this comes out people need to remember that an ask in negotiations doesn’t necessarily mean that’s where they expect to end up.

They may have been asking for $14 and I’m assuming they expected to negotiate to somewhere around Draisaitl’s contract. That doesn’t seem particularly unreasonable in light of where the caps going.

Yes, but just because the cap is going up, doesn't mean you blow that entire increase on one player or contract. Acting like these cap increases is free money is exactly why so many teams are stuck right now.

The cap is literally going up because the teams are making more profits, that's why agents deal in percentage of the cap.

The third pick (their own) the Hawks got for Hall is the closest to a low 2nd they could get. Hall was not going to get more than a 3rd (a low one) from a contender at the deadline. Good value.
we found KD's burner account.. I mean the TDL is Monday right? RIGHT??? So you know for fact that's the most they could have gotten meanwhile injuries, trades, ,make teams more desperate to go all in as TDL approaches but hey KD is the smartest GM in the room

Reading some of these takes makes you think that Rantanen is a defensive scrub only feasting off MacKinnon and Makar, and should roughly be off the league in a few years.

Yep

Colorado fans show up here and suddenly explain how Rants is past his prime and easily replaced as a top6 winger

Basically half the wingers are just as good

Makar is/was always going to set the new market for Dmen

Whether or not Colorado paid Rantanen

& all of you Colorado fans don’t have certainty that he wouldn’t have signed for less than 14M. That just helps you to sleep better and cope

Starting price is always different than the final number, you should very well know none of these guys start from the number they’ll accept and Colorado didn’t go back to Rantanen just decided to trade him

So you really have no clue about the 14M being set on stone by Rantanen
Shut up dude, go be a canes fan and leave us alone

As a fan of none of the teams involved this seems like Colorado lost the trade from the outside. But I thought Calgary won the Tkachuk trade when that happened so maybe it's a case of overrating Rantanen like I did Huberdeau?

Chicago fans should be irate.
Why? Taylor Hall is not good. Come draft time the end result of this deal for the Hawks is our own free high 3rd rounder. Not going to get much better than that. Even if there was a little more to be had, what would it be? I'd rather have Avs picking up the phone on the first ring next time than strong arming them for pennies on this deal.

If the Canes fail to resign Rantanen the Avs win this hands down.
And since they failed with Guentzel I wouldn't bet on it....

In the short term, a lot of people (myself included) thought it was a win for the Flames, especially considering the circumstances. And a lot of people (myself included), thought it would take a few years for Tkachuk to mature and to replace Weegar on defence.

However, the majority still liked the trade for Florida when it came to the future. Turns out, future came out faster than predicted for Florida, and Huberdeau completely bombed out in Calgary.
The prevalent theme at time of the trade was that FL got fleeced

Everybody needs to moderate expectations, for sure. The myth of Necas is driven by his insane shooting percentage for the first 20 games of this season. Since then he has regressed to his career mean. But he is still an rock solid winger even at that pace - although he is not a playoff monster.

God knows how inflated Rants numbers are from playing with MacKinnon. Its possible that they both suffer because of this.

I'm elated but know I probably shouldn't be.

Kaboom! Didn’t expect Rants to get traded this early. Don’t blame the Avs though. Can’t see them paying him more than MacKinnon. Looks like Colorado doesn’t want to get stuck in a position like the Leafs, paying the top 4 guys too high a %age of the salary cap.
I’ll reserve judgement on who “won” the trade after the season and FA.

Yes, i think Mikko has elevated Nates stats as much as the opposite, both are great players, thats why i cannot understand why they didnt just pay him because it is going to be impossible to replace him, players like that just arent on the market.
