do they have the plan to hand out an offer sheet this summer?
He's going to be a ufa so his value isn't the same has if he was signed for another 4 or 5 years Colorado did good considering.Rantanen is 6th in the league in scoring. It wasn't smart they didn't get close to enough for him.
Avs kept winning when Nate was injured. Avs have never shown to win without Rants. 11m/8years was a disrespectful offer for the new cap.I think you'll find the ones saying this have been consistently saying it for the last 2 years.
There was a huge thread in the off-season about the validity of a Rantanen trade. The fan base was pretty split. He's a top-end talent but one that continually left you wanting more and it never made sense to pay him more than Mackinnon from an Avs POV. He's never shown consistently in his Avs tenure that he could carry a line by himself (at least for the last 2+ seasons). Clearly he played hardball so good luck to him.
Avs won the Cup because of their depth. Most teams do. Some teams with depth (like the Canes) need the top end talent to get them over the hump. Avs already have 2 of the best players in the world and need more cap space to supplement that. Win-win most likely.
I think people are getting too excited. Carolina has marginally improved their offense but teams are a lot more than one player.
your post made me look at how often hall was scratched recently. he was a $6m cap dump and the 50% retention on rantanen saves chicago money and clears a contract spotWhat I learned from this thread is a lot of posters think Hall is still good and that the Hawks could have gotten more for him.
Reputable sources said if they just retained 50% on Hall they would have gotten a late third at best.
Jääskä is the only Carolina player from Helsinki area. Rantanen is from Turku area (Nousiainen), Aho is from Oulu and Kotkaniemi from Pori. The difference between Helsinki and Turku is at least as big as the difference between Los Angeles and Miami or New York and Chicago.Welcome the "Helsinki Hurricanes".
And MacKinnon probably one of the most overrated players in the league. In my opinion there could be two additional reasons why Rantanen wasn't very happy in Colorado. One is the goaltender lottery what they have been playing and the other one the fact that Rantanen had to play too much which resulted in him not being as sharpest always when it counted the most. From the outside looking in, Rantanen has always seemed under-appreciated by Colorado. How in the world you don’t bother ponying up for a player of his caliber is beyond me.
I said there's a good chance he'll never get back to the level he was previously at if he gets back to the NHL at all. A lack of evidence suggests we have no idea when, if or how well his return will go. It's largely guessing, and the lack of previous examples of players returning to elite professional hockey or elite professional sport in general is at least somewhat concerning for his longterm outlook.I do. A lack of evidence doesn’t suggest anything, so unsure why you are suggesting he’s most likely done.
I would argue that one of the biggest reasons Carolina hasn't made a deep run is because they haven't had that one player. As good as Aho is, I find it hard to take a team with him as their #1 offensive threat seriously when it comes to Cup contenders. Rantanen however is much more convincing.I think people are getting too excited. Carolina has marginally improved their offense but teams are a lot more than one player.

A few insiders are saying that Colorado isn't done, so who knows what this roster will look like by the deadline

the option to offer sheet in the off seasonThe biggest mystery here is Chicago retaining 50% of Rantanen’s contract AND trading Hall… for a 3rd. What was Hall’s value? What was the value of retaining 50% on Rantanen? How are the two combined only worth a 3rd?
Tell that to Florida trading Jonathan Huberdeau. Everyone blasted them at the time. Seems like it worked out?
I was thinking about this too. They can easily delay him from starting until the playoffs and also trade for Miller.
I’m not betting against Sakic
cap management for the long termI just don’t see how anyone on our side can see this as a win-win. Losing Mikko hurts a lot and there is no way in hell the current roster can be considered a cup contender without making another major deal. I’m curious to how the team reacts to this, especially MacK.
