Confirmed Trade: [CAR/COL/CHI] Mikko Rantanen (50%), Taylor Hall, Nils Juntorp to CAR; Martin Necas, Jack Drury, '25 2nd, '26 4th to COL; '25 3rd to CHI for retention

Skating wise yes but that's the only aspect. Necas is much slower in terms of passing, processing the game and making quick decisions that lead to goals or assists.

I'm wondering if MacKinnon and Necas even fit each other.

Necas might be tried at 2C

Crazy blockbuster and I bet you Sakic has another move he will make

Hawks GM is like … wait, what? I’m giving up Hall, retaining on Rantanen and I get a 3rd? Sign me up lol

So, basically trading 1.5 years of Necas for half a year of Hall and Rantanen at 50%? Unfortunately CAR lost a RH forward.
COL will get their W when they trade Drury to NY for Kreider… or JT Miller in a 3 way.
They’ve got Blake, Jarvis and Roslovic on roster still

Have Nadeau and Unger Sorum in Chicago.

They’re good as far as righties go

Hmmm. First thought is Necas is not an insignificant piece to get back for a rental, even one as good as Rantanen. If Colorado made the determination there was no possibility of Rantanen staying then getting a high end forward back they could move forward with isn't the worst thing. If Carolina wins the cup or is able to extend Rantanen they definitely win this trade.

Interested to see what comes next.

Nah, been saying it for a year now that I wouldn't want him at that price and would prefer to trade him this year.

I loved Mikko more than MacK for awhile. He just stopped being himself starting last season. You'll see plenty of Avs fans discussing it last year.
I mean you could go on the Oilers board for the last 10 years and watch fans constantly criticize Draisaitl throughout the season, call him lazy, etc. People are too critical on star players on this site. Your fanbase will realize how big of a downgrade Necas is on Rantanen soon enough. Rantanen is a top 3 winger in the NHL.

And? This has nothing to do with Necas. Friedman is simply speculating that Carolina will likely bow out on chasing Miller not that they were offering Necas for him.

I guarantee if Necas was even remotely on the table, Miller would already be on the flight to Carolina weeks ago.

Miller has a NMC. Could have blocked the trade. Bet you he’s going to the Avs now

Not sure if Rantanen going to Carolina helps or hurts his stats in regards to my fantasy hockey team. That's really the only thing I'm concerned about as a fan of none of the teams involved.

But wild trade that I didn't see coming. I heard he was having issues about re-signing, but they moved quick.
