Oh man Lack sucks ass :shakehead

Vancouver and Carolina are among the 6 teams I follow so I've seen him plenty. He most certainly is not an NHL goal. Reminds me eerily of Loui Domingue

IMO great trade for the Flames. Murphy still has that potential to be a go to guy on the powerplay. Just let him fly on your first unit in training camp and the first quarter of the season, if it doesn't work out, what's the downside?

Murphy is trash on the powerplay. He has zero hockey sense and is incredibly indecisive. I've never seen him do anything except fake a slapshot eight times and then fire into a defender's shinpad.

I'm not saying he hasn't been a disappointment so far, because he has. But he is coached to just shoot, shoot, shoot he could be an asset.

OK, then if he doesn't pan out you have a great top 4 anyways. Unless you value Kanzig as a legit prospect this is still a win for the Flames.

Kanzig is lucky that he still owns a pair of skates. It doesn't mean this is a good trade. We have a headcase goalie who could lose us important games, and an extra contract in a bust who cant skate or think the game

Flames get a backup and a warm body on D, Canes clear space and a roster spot, win win.

But as I said in the Flames thread:

Maybe Calgary can turn Murphys career around like they did Kris Russels and Versteeg.

Lack didn't totally suck until the Canes' goaltending coach got his hands on him and ****ed up his style. Rollie Melanson had him playing pretty decent hockey and if he can get back to playing with his strengths instead of against them, he can be a more than serviceable backup, perhaps even more. I fully expect him to shine against the Canucks... and not just because they're totally terrible.

If there's anyone who won't fix a previous goalie coach's screwup, it's Jordan Sigalet.

Guess it comes down to how you evaluate Murphy. I think Lack is a good backup plan at the very least and it isn't costing you anything but cap space. I'm the furthest thing from a Flames fan but I just don't see how this isn't a positive trade when considering the upside.

Basically what this does for Calgary is setting themselves up for some competition in training camp.

Gillies, Rittich, and Lack all compete for the backup spot.

Andersson and Murphy battle for #6, Kulak, Bartkowski, Wotherspoon, and Kylington battle for #5.

Calgary gets a goalie that could turn into a good backup, Carolina gets to clear some money. Murphy needed a change and Kanzig just a throw in.

Seems like a decent enough trade for both sides. The kind of move that could work out for everyone involved, or worst case scenario, nothing happens and who cares because in that case nothing of value got moved

A real "lack" of talent involved in this trade.

All kidding aside, I'm glad my fears of TNSE bringing Lack back were unfounded. Not a fan.

You would think that a team pumping out so many great defensemen like the canes would have already been successful with Murphy if it was possible. You just can't add on a few extra IQ points by practising harder.

As for lack, like I said, he's probably going to lose us games. He's up down and all over the place, and we have no luck with goalies as is, I can't name the last successful season by a goalie that wasn't kipper.
