He had Sergachev in a headlock in the big scrum after Rielly hit point and Sergachev was so scared he wouldn’t even make eye contact with him.

I remember that - Sergachev looked like a terrified puppy there, it was comical.

Normal playoff hockey. Never complain about the refs. I tell my kids, both playing competitive (nothing that high level, just saying, it's not house league), this all the time. The refs like 99% of the time don't win or lose a game. You earn the win or lose, yourself, and as team. The reffing is a side product of the game happening, make your own fate.

That sounds really inspiring and very often is the case but has nothing to do with the reality of Tampa vs. Toronto in the playoffs

He hasn't been at his best and he's big brothering Tampa's stars on the scoreboard. He has as much points as Kucherov, Point and Stamkos combined.

edit: 1 less point

He has as many points as their leading scorer Kucherov had in 7 games against us last year.

"Normal playoff hockey " is such a ridiculous cop out . Call the game the way its supposed to be called and be consistent. Don't call a fantom hook to the hands, and then not call a blatant instigator trying to get the best player on the ice, OFF the ice , then say " well, it's playoff hockey" it's embarrassing
It is though. Bud, you gotta fight through this stuff, because it happens. Might as well complain about the wind blowing. Refs making subjective calls is hockey. Sometimes it is for you and sometimes it against you. It's not balls and strikes on a computer. Bet TBL fans have something to say about bad reffing too, although I can't imagine what. But that's my bias.
Does a gambling magnate sponsor your minor hockey league? Thought not. NHL refereeing bias is just in-your-face blatant right now; coincides with signing up the new pro league major sponsors.
The gambling sponsorships suck ass, I'm not opposed to the occasional Poker Stars game myself, but it's over the top.

What exactly is the accusation? Refs are calling games against Leafs because corporate gambling magnates have got to them?

That is a game we have lost every time previously. OT wasn't overly stressful b/c I just expected the inevitable. That was new! Did a little leap and yell when that shot went in!

Samsonov held on for dear life and the boys rewarded him. Not sure I remember a Leaf goalie battling like that since Cujo.

That second period was the most unwatchable period from this entire season.

Schenn stood out for so many reasons; one I didn't expect was his ability to move the puck out of the zone with such ease while the rest of the D were shitting themselves for most of the night.

So impressed with Knies. The coaches have obviously told him to be himself. He's a keeper.

Most disappointed with Nylander, Brodie, Gio and Jarnkrok tonight for varying reasons. Nylander looked he was not interested in the tight physical game through two. He did pick it up in the third.

Fantastic team win. Grinded the shit out of that game.

5 points and 1 goal against him in 3 games, I think he's doing just fine.
Yeah but he hasn't really been at his best either. That shift right there is what you get out of Matthews every shift of the game when he's on.

Honest to god I think once this whole playoff series losing streak monkey is off the backs off M and M they're finally gonna bring their real form in the playoffs.

I noticed a lot of sniffing (from players) in some of the post game interviews. Something going through the room I wonder? Could that have played a part in the absolute dog shit performance? Probably not, but if they are like this again on Monday, I will be curious.

The wind blows for a reason. Refs deciding when to call a penalty a penalty, and then putting their whistles away for another blatant penalty happens for a reason too. You understand why the wind blows, but answer me why a blatant instigator against the best player on the ice wasn't called, but a fantom hook was?

And try doing it without saying "snarf, playoff hockey"

Was that a Seinfeld episode? That's gold Jerry, gold!

Maybe...but maybe this game broke their spirit and buoyed ours.
It’s the Lightening. Don’t count on their spirit being broken Even if some of their bones might be. That’s a team with heart. Leafs especially their star players need to show more of that if they want to win the series.

Thought he was awful. Worst game he’s played in a while.

Totally agree
I don’t care about his play in the regular season any longer , he produces enough and he also has competed at a higher level as well , in the regular season .
But in the playoffs and if you want to win championships and be known as a perennial contender of the Cup and have a winning identity, you just can’t have that display tonight from anyone ..I know that wouldn’t be acceptable by the Bruins or Bolts … we can’t in anyway accept that or we will never be back to a winning Franchise and team .
That was gross in the playoffs .
GLG though !
We won we won !

Because people are stupid, and subject to emotions. And you gotta deal with it.

There's an "ask my wife" joke somewhere here.

Matthews isn't close to 100% though, I think he's playing accordingly and focusing more on defense because we know his shot isn't close to what it is at his best and that's like McDavid losing his speed and still dominating, which would basically never happen.

Because he's getting punched in the head already by Stamkos?

Seems like a great reason to fight back to me.

What's the alternative at that point? Wait for the refs or another player to rescue him?
That’s been his tactics in the past. He had nobody to protect him tonight and Stamkos broke his cherry. There’s a lot to like about Auston, but his unwillingness to stand up for himself or engage is embarrassing at times.
