Disagree. Suzdalev was completely outmatched and ill prepared for training camp. He was outmatched in practice leading up to his departure and didn't belong in the AHL. You don't force guys into the lineup if they don't belong. He should have gone back to Regina. How impactful was the Calder cup run for the boys last year? You've got Mikey, Beck and Protas playing big roles. Lappy coming in to fill injuries. They want to breed that same winning mentality into the kids and playing a bunch of guys who don't belong isn't how you do that. You build a winner and work the kids into the lineup around them. Hershey is a top tier AHL organization, there's no reason to doubt what they do.
Little late coming back to this. I love how the Bears are run. I want championships at all levels. I just didn’t think we needed all of the 26+ or non-prospects. It sounds like Sudz was way more behind that I understood him to be.

But back in WHL and Pats paid a lot for him. I’m excited for him (and for org). Good outcome.

Did we ever hear or get any idea that Regina was "moving on" to match with the Bedard loss and rebuild in a stronger window, and that Suzdalev was either unwelcome back or otherwise squeezed out? I don't mean to be speculating but looking at it, maybe they wanted to punt and create a new Junior window in the wake of a generational guy. Suzdalev might arguably be too good for what they want to do based on the year before, and him developing on a team trying to angle for the bottom doesn't suit Washington's goals much... Caps might have thought the pro transition would be better than playing for that, and then allowed/requested Regina make a trade when that wasn't working for Suzy?

It's starting to seem reasonable to me but I am just guessing. Feels like if Regina wanted to win more based on their standings they'd want him back, and it makes you think...

Dube is now tied for 1st in goals in the AHL. At some point we've got to see how he does against NHL goalies, I'd think. We're 2nd to last in the league in goal scoring and we need to turn it around fast if we're going to salvage the season.

Matthew Phillips was 2nd in goals in the AHL last season and a superior player in the AHL. Dube isn't much bigger than him. Don't get your hopes up.

Dube has blazing speed. The good parts of Phillips game aren't good enough to overcome his physical shortcomings. He certainly doesn't have the wheels Dube has.

I really like Dube at the AHL level, nothing against him but are we talking about the same Matthew Phillips? One of his biggest assets is his speed. Just as a fun exercise google Matthew Phillips Speed and there's about 15-20 pre and post draft scouting reports on him citing his speed as one of his biggest assets. If he was in Hershey this season, with that team around him, he'd probably be leading the AHL in goals and points. I don't think you'd see much improvement by switching Dube for Phillips at the NHL level.

He's a little bit bigger and heavier than Phillips, and two and a half years younger. I shouldn't have said "salvage the season", because either way the Caps are going nowhere fast this year... but we just can't score goals, so I'd like to start taking some chances to get the offense started

Just because one small player didn't pan out doesn't mean you shouldn't give a chance to another who has earned it. But yes, i'm not expecting much until i see something at the NHL-level.

It would be stupid not to give him a chance. Especially as it would be at the expense of Matthew Phillips who himself didn't take his own chance.

Nothing against small players, love to see them do well. I'd give Ethan Frank a chance before Dube. He's earned it, been in the organization longer and made quite a push to solidify his defensive side of the game this year. Dube has a little ways to go.

I liked the way Leonard also was involved physically. Pissed a lot of dudes off and didn’t shy away from the body. I thin that will tranlate quicker to the NHL ice. There was a lot of guys dancing around with the puck, and it looked good but they wouldn’t get away with that as much in the league

So your telling me he is a St Louis? I want to believe!
I wish, Marty was an absolute fitness freak, and built like a fire hydrant. Strong dude who could fly. it was more of an indictment of Phillips, and a desire for management to try something else. I'm all for giving some new blood an opportunity, especially if they are ++ skaters. I liked the idea of Phillips, and he flashed in the preseason, but watching him try to forecheck is just brutal. Looks like a toddler trying to get the puck from his older brother.

So, I wonder if Leonard can win everything this year does that make it more likely he makes the jump next season.

Tom Wilson and Ryan Leonard on the same team is going to be A+ content. Sorry @twabby but your plan to trade Tom for some magic beans or for "a better hockey player" is not an acceptable one in my mind

Leonard’s a “trash bucket” LOL.

Is that some Masshole lingo I’m not familiar with? I just may have to adopt that nickname for Leonard, lol.

I played lacrosse in college with a bunch of dudes from Long Island and I played hockey with a few kids from Massachusetts and I feel like you need a dictionary to understand some of the stuff they say. The lingo specific to certain sports in certain areas is wild. Hockey players already have weird lingo and then you add in some Masshole vibes and boom, you get a new language.
