Prospect Info: Caps Top Prospects General Discussion Thread Vol. 2 - 2021-22

If you are unable to receive tonight’s Caps telecast (or if the game is lopsided), you can switch over to the BC-Long Island University game (also on ESPN+) to watch Ryan Leonard.

His skating looks stronger but he's still not very fast, which is unfortunate, although if he were fast he simply wouldn't have been a 2nd round pick. Unless the guy that caught him on his breakaway had elite wheels, you'd hope that he'd keep a little more separation. Still great hands and touches but it's all going to come down to his feet as far as I can tell.

That said, Justin Williams was never all that fast either and he carved himself out a pretty nice career. Honestly, put me down for Williams as his NHL floor if he makes the NHL (weird as that is to say but I think it's hard to picture a guy like Cristall not being good enough for top 6 duty but also being good/physically dangerous enough to carve out a bottom 6 role)

From the HOCKEY NEWS

ZACH BENSON, LW, BUFFALO SABRES

The Buffalo Sabres were elated to select Benson at 13th overall in the draft this past June, but they couldn’t have expected the WHL star to look this good, this fast. From the moment he stepped onto the ice in the Sabres rookie camp, he has been the star of the show. His agility and intelligence have been evident, and his undying need to advance play positively has left an impression on the coaching staff.

His ability to play up and down the lineup will be an asset as he looks to keep his roster spot with the Sabres as the season wears on. With Jack Quinn out long-term with an Achilles injury, a roster spot on the wing in the middle six is open, and Benson has been practising on the third line with Casey Mittelstadt and Jordan Greenway. There is a real shot for him to play on the second line if Victor Olofsson struggles as well.

Benson is in prime position to secure a roster spot assuming his pre-season play continues into the regular season. If it does, he might be one of the Sabres' most effective players by season’s end.

Verdict: Benson will stick with the Sabres

Ross would have gotten a good look at draft-eligible power center Cayden Lindstrom. Too early to boost him to the top half of the first round but he's got the raw tools to get there if he puts it all together. And, of course, Gavin McKenna.

Ears perked up when they said he's 6'5

The list of NHLers who weren’t very fast is very very long. His style reminds me of Giroux.

edit: messed this one up, lol

We'd be a little lucky but I'll take it, we're overdue for some of that luck.

Reactions: um

Cristall up to fourth in WHL scoring. If Benson isn't returned he's got a good shot at the crown.

And he also has 2-3 fewer games played than those above him. I can't get over how good that pick was, and how silly it was for so many teams to pass on him.

Please don’t jinx us…..seen way too many high-level Jrs scorers whiff on their NHL careers..

Also RPI at BC on ESPN+ for Leonard watching.

Hurts so bad…..f’ing Getzlaf!

After Fehr having back to back 50+ goal seasons after he was drafted I really don't pay too much attention to junior stats.

I don't think the comparison is apt:

Cristall's adjusted production significantly outpaces Fehr's at this point.
