what makes it a little exciting is watching him do it after losing a lot of development time to illness and taking so long to be cleared to play. If that's shaking the rust off in competitive play it's not out of line to be sitting up and paying a little attentionI get that the early returns on Miro are very promising, but it's been 4 games in the MHL. Might need to pump the brakes on the hype train a bit. He's actually playing in a lower league than he was last year (the VHL). For context, in the handful of games that Kuznetsov played in the MHL, he was nearly a 2PPG player (31 points in 17 games spread across ages 17-19, the MHL didn't exist when he was younger than that). Heck, even Orlov put up 13 points in 8 games in the MHL across his age 18-19 seasons. Nikita Gusev had 192 points in 120 MHL games, and he didn't end up working out as an NHLer. The best example for hope would be Nikita Kucherov, who had plenty of MHL time and not a lot of KHL time, but even he had one season in the Q (and dominated the WJHC) before joining the NHL ranks. Kucherov had 43 points in 23 MHL games in his D+1 season.
None of this is to say Miro is bad or Miro won't pan out. Just that it's awfully early to start getting excited, and certainly too early to envision him on an NHL 1st line. 1st line NHL talents should be absolutely dunking on the competition in the MHL, but unfortunately so do some players who arent 1st line talents.
you talking spending futures? It's over dawg! After consulting myself, we've decided that my only untouchables are the Russians and Future American Hockey Hero Ryan Chelsey. I'd prefer to keep Iorio and Lapierre, but would part with one or both if it was for a cost-controlled good piece. I don't know how much either moves the needle league-wide, however.
This leaves little attractive trade bait, unfortunately. And I don't see the Caps sending out a vet at the moment.
Lapierre is also interesting as someone who fell in his draft year but had a top 10 potential at one point, and then lost a lot of development time to the pandemic.Miro looks like a steal for the Caps. He was considered a top talent before cancer and looks like hes back in shape and proving he is still a top talent after beating the illness. Might be a top end talent that the Caps really need.
What do people think about Lapierre? Looks like he got a decent start with 10 points in 12 games for Hershey. At the same time he isnt producing anymore than McMichael did in Hershey one year earlier. Might play a better overall game, but at best I think he is a 2nd line center. Doesnt look like he has the production of a 1st line C.
First year after draft:
McM OHL - 52 games 47 goals, 55 assists for 102 points
Lapierre - QMJHL 21 games 8 goals, 23 assists for 31 points
Second year:
McM AHL - 33 games, 14 goals, 13 assists for 27 points
Lapierre QMJHL - 40 games, 21 goals, 30 assists for 51 points
Third year:
McM NHL - 68 games, 9 goals, 9 assists for 18 points
Lapierre AHL - 12 games, 3 goals, 7 assists for 10 points
McMichael graduated one year earlier to the AHL and to the NHL. While this year he havent really got much of a chance in the NHL. Might be the coach or might be his play in training.

Caps aren't competing for a cup. Build for the future or be stuck in mediocrity.
Damn you’re on top of it. Was just coming to post thisChesley taking on #3 ranked Michigan (albeit minus Fantilli) on Big Ten Network currently. Have to say I wasn't expecting Chesley to be rocking #71.
I think the difference is that Lapierre will get a more traditional development path. He missed a lot of games in Juniors. Will get a full year in Hershey this year and probably next year with call-up opportunities. We had to force McMichael too quickly because of injuries on Caps. His regression this year is puzzling and now we have to go backwards to before we can move forward. It’s why caps like to bake (over bake) their prospect longer. both McMichall and Lapierre are exciting prospects… neither ready for the NHL this year.Miro looks like a steal for the Caps. Two assists for Miro in VHL action.
Next games for Miro are Saturday and Monday.Happy he was called up to the VHL. He needed some better competition.
No idea. He had two points in his first game in the VHL.Why'd he get sent back to the MHL...? Or is he playing in both for some reason?
Back in the MHL, 1+1
