Speculation: Caps Roster General Discussion (Coaching/FAs/Cap/Lines/etc) | 2025-26 Summer Edition

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
I had kind of convinced myself I’d rather have Pettersson than Tuch but obviously Tuch would cost less in both acquisition price and trade pieces

Much like Kyrou 3 of the last 4 years he's been pretty great scoring 30 with some Selke votes mixed in
Sabres fan here. Assuming it all goes down you guys are going to love Tuch. When he's really engaged he can dominate a game with excellent forechecking and defensive play. He's a threat short handed and played well with anyone we put him with.

I'll be sad to see him go but it sounds like Buffalo wasn't willing to get close to the term and salary he's demanding.

Would be weird they wheel in both Kyrou and Tuch to play someone in off-wing. Leonard the obvious choice?

Id figure Caps in fact were after Tuch too, but getting Kyrou takes us out.? The news could be just outdated.

Though i dont hate this lineup..

Protas-Protas-Wilson
Ovechkin-Strome-Tuch
Leonard-Dubois-Kyrou
Beauvillier-Sourdif-Frank

Quantity of quality over top-heavy top6.

If we got Tuch too, and Ovie at around 8-9, we still should have 3-4 mills to work with. That added with Sandins LTIR and/or moving maybe Beauvillier as a cap casualty would still leave us somewhere around 5 mills to go and get Trouba or Ristolainen.

If I'm ovi and the only reason I'm coming back is to try and win I'm telling them to spend to the Cap and we'll figure the rest out later.

NOW this is what I call an offseason, love it! Patrick beleives in this team clearly. Lil Pro and Hutson acclimating so quickly at the end of last season I think sped up everything by a season and convinced Ovie to come back. LFGO!

FWIW, Tuch will forever be the guy beaten by The Save to me. Will be super weird to root for him to actually get one past a goalie. lol
He was also the key guy in the Eichel trade which, looking back, was this key moment in player empowerment. Had an eventful career so far!

On the flip side I say we should try to get Tampa to take Lindgren in a trade, saying that he’s proven he can even score goals for them.

Except Kyrou is 2 years younger, substantially faster, and has hit 70+ points three times instead of just once. Kyrou is the speed and dynamism that this forward corps has lacked. Tuch is more of the same. Another big body who relies on his linemates to create the play.

I’ve not been a fan of the Tuch chats all of us have had over the last year I just don’t see the value in him at the price he’ll command. If we do get him hope I’m wrong and a lot of you are right.

This is a valuable archetype of player you're shitting on. No team is like "We've got too many big bodies who rely on teammates." Speed was also added but adding a 2nd top 6 even with an onerous contract is similar to, but better from every angle, signing Orpik after signing Niskanen.

Good catch and def has the same ring on it.

I'm most concerned about our defense right now. If we get another right wing, I hope it's because we've got another deal in the works for a right dman

The Washington Capitals were "we've got too many big bodies who rely on teammates" the past few years. It's not a bad archetype to have, but you need more than that. You need players who can actually help create the play, which is what the Capitals have been lacking. They don't need more complimentary guys, they need more primary catalysts. Kyrou is a step in the right direction, Tuch is more of the what they already have in overabundance.

Orpik and Niskanen were not even remotely the same player (and Orpik cost them more playoffs series through gaffes and his tanker-sized turning radius than he won them).

I wonder why he sucks on the power play.
