Speculation: Caps Roster General Discussion (Coaching/FAs/Cap/Lines/etc) | 2025-26 Summer Edition

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
The Washington Capitals were "we've got too many big bodies who rely on teammates" the past few years. It's not a bad archetype to have, but you need more than that. You need players who can actually help create the play, which is what the Capitals have been lacking. They don't need more complimentary guys, they need more primary catalysts. Kyrou is a step in the right direction, Tuch is more of the what they already have in overabundance.

Orpik and Niskanen were not even remotely the same player (and Orpik cost them more playoffs series through gaffes and his tanker-sized turning radius than he won them).
Damn Wilson, Protas and PLD dragging us down.

I'm most concerned about our defense right now. If we get another right wing, I hope it's because we've got another deal in the works for a right dman

If they spend big to go after two top6 wingers im pretty confident they have a plan to address the RD aswell. Crazy times.

Y'all are intentionally misinterpreting my point. This isn't to shit on our players or that archetype of player. It's saying we don't need *another* one of that type of player. We need more players who can create the offense so that those big body complimentary-types can play their role.

(Also Ovechkin has very much been of this ilk for a while)

Said we're heating up, could be anything but I'd expect something to happen soon. He's usually pretty spot on when he's cryptic like that.

Maybe Buffalo got Crevier in the Byram trade because they intended to flip him to the Caps as part of this deal? (I know it's crazy unlikely, but a man can dream)

Ovi isn't gonna retire but he's gonna come back for pretty damn cheap, that's why we are getting what we are now, we already know

Damn. rip Miro.

Making deals like we're on the last chopper out of Nam'.

Understandable because there probably won't even be Tuch level UFAs going forward. This is just straight value play.

I absolutely detest the idea of of paying a 30 year old winger 10.5 for 8 years but f*** it why not. Cap is going up, it’s not my money, and they’ve never been afraid or unable to cut loose from a contract once they’re done with it. This is the same front office that got a 3rd round pick for the corpse of Kuznetsov.

We got maybe the 2 best forwards on the market and didn't give up much of anything of value.
