Samoskevich is a great player and I would’ve loved this move for anyone except Seattle lol.

Does make me think we should be moving on from McMichael, would have to imagine he’d get you into the top half of the first round

Seems not great as far as establishing value for the 18th pick. Samo has some upside remaining but fairly solid bit of biz done by Florida here I think (particularly given that he's due for a raise).
I wanna believe that's because there's a drop off after ~20 (I feel like I've seen people say that) and/or because Seattle is a poorly run franchise, but I'm afraid you're right.

Yea I'm suprised Samoskevich got any kind of 1st in return. Doesn't look great for our chances in getting a legit piece. On the other hand, imagine what you could get if you sold something. Don't really see that happening either. Why does Florida need another 1st anyways? Dead set on Sokolovskii playing for them 5 years from now? Propspects are still assets I guess.

Unless, the late 1st is a more preferable asset than Samoskevich to get Hellebuyck. 9th + 25th for Hellebuyck.

This was my first thought when seeing the trade, FLA is getting assets for a 1G

Not sure why ppl think this FLA/SEA trade is setting market value for this FA period. Bad GMs make bad deals every off-season, doesn't set the inherent value of what a 1st is worth imo.

Brady had a NMC so it wasn't a truly open market for his services. There were two years remaining on his contract and presumably that spurred action. Robertson perhaps could be in a similar boat thanks to his leverage to walk himself to UFA via arbitration but has no trade protection. Ottawa flipping those picks for Robertson seems logical enough I suppose, though Dallas may not yet be at the point quite yet to make that decision.

Matty-Barkov-Reinhart
Brady-Bennet-Verhaeghe
Marchand-Lundell-Luostarinen
Gadjovich-Rodriguez-Boqvist

These are the only players currently under contract younger than 30:
Lundell (24)
Brady (26)
Luostarinen (27)
Boqvist (27)
Gadjovich (27)
Matty (28)
Balinskis (29)

They don’t have a 1st round pick until 2030 and have no goalie signed yet, with ~7M in capspace with 19 rosterplayers

Wow.

Kinda suprised Ottawa is taking picks for Brady. Makes me think he quietly asked out. Or that Ottawa realised with 2 years left on his deal he'd walk to Florida eventually, so the best piece they were ever going to get was this year's 9th overall pick. Regardless, league-wide disdain for Florida grows.

It also takes them out of the Larkin/Hellebuyck sweepstakes.

Hopefully this spurs some movement.

What a deal. Big trades coming this offseason and this is just the start. Feel like we'll be the bridesmaid again but we'll see I guess. CP probably shaking in his boots at some of these trade prices. 🤣

Florida will be fine, I think this does mark the end of Evan Rodrigues there, they’ll find a taker for him, likely sign Bob to a multi year extension (didn’t he say he was looking for 6 years or something) at a lower cap hit, you know Zito is going to find the perfect minimum wage fits to fill out the rest of the roster.
