Just got a 1st for a rental, why trade a 1st for a rental?
Because DeBrincat is almost a decade younger than Carlson, should still have prime years ahead of him, plays the biggest position of need on this team, and gives the Caps the opportunity to negotiate an extension with said player.

If they can get ADB for draft picks they should be all over it. Couldn’t ask for much better asset allocation than trading an aging Carlson for futures and then using said futures to acquire a 40 goal scorer on a nice cap hit for next season.

My latest conclusion is that Cristall should not be traded in hunt of top6/top4, unless its proven u29 superstar level player like Robertson.

Like they all say, he’s dominated every level he has played. And it’s been since the get go, already doing it in AHL as a rookie and so good NHL camps too. Been so slow cooked, I want to really see what we have him. The upside is real. Seems to quickly adapt and force his way up time after time, hockey IQ is top level and the rest will get there.
Have to give up assets to get anything of value.

3x 1st for 26/27 and bunch of other prospects and roster players should keep us gunning for ”anything of value”.

For Cristall id look more specific value than anything.
All the names being mentioned like Kyrou Larkin DeBrincat, etc are not going to only cost some mid 1st round picks. It’s going to cost a good prospect as well and we know Hutson and Protas are not getting traded.

I wouldnt trade Cristall in a Kyrou trade. Larkin would be a swap for Strome with a 1st maybe for me. DeBrincat, thats a close one.

A team calls you in one of these hypothetical trade returns for a legit player and says they want one of Cristall or McMichael coming back.

Who are you putting in that deal?

I’m driving Cristall to the airport in a Kyrou trade. If Cristall can’t make the top 6 then he is going to be traded eventually. Pretty much any top 6 forward trade blocks his path so might as well get value for him.

Depends on what else is being asked in the deal. I would favor keeping McMichael because he has proven to be an effective NHLer. That is still up in the air for Cristall.

Hopefully he wouldn't just be a rental and he's a 30 to 40 goal scorer, those don't grow on trees.
Best you can do on an extension is a handshake deal he signs 7/1 if you trade picks from this draft, I’d assume he’s going to want more than whatever Tuch signs for who’s a 3 time 30 goal scorer plus whatever assets, just would rather pursue Tuch or someone with term. But I’m assuming DaBrincat wants $10M+ AAV and Kyrou doesn’t cost way more in assets than DeBrincat.

Why not a sign and trade? Detroit signs him to an extension as part of the deal just like Tampa and TML just did for Raddysh.

What’s crazy with the Red Wings is Stevie Y is a Michigan Legend, Red Wings captain was very good building Tampa.

Goes to the Red Wings pretty much can’t do anything and the two players on the trade block are both born in Michigan it seems like it should’ve been a perfect fit, but it’s a disaster

Raddyish is a pending UFA, since ADB has 1 year left he can’t sign an extension with anyone until 7/1. Handshake deals happen, but other guys seem likelier for the Caps to me because other teams might feel better trading for ADC unsigned.

If the Wings blow it up. I would be interested in both of these players. We have 2 1st rounders so we can offer a nice return.

He's small LW at 5'8. 28 years old. Signed 1 more season at a nice cap hit 7.8 so he will be a deadline trade player if he wants out.
Just had a 40 goal season. Friends w Strome. Consider me very interested

Looks like Detroit is imploding and Yzerman’s job is hanging by a thread. I know the word is he wants roster players in a trade, but you’ve gotta think the smarter move is to tear it down and try again. Otherwise, they’ll be stuck in mediocrity for another 10 years.

That would mean they have to trade Seider and Raymond as well. Probably best long term but Yzerman would probably be fired so he won’t do that.
