Hopefully he stays Hershey, but then again I'm not sure I want him with upcoming prospects.
Meh. It's not like he can persuade the kids in Hershey to not sign with the organization, they've already done so.

Speaking generally, I know it's easy to dunk on a guy who didn't sign with the organization who drafted him, but can we really blame him? How many of us would be pleased if we didn't get a say in who employs us or where to live? He had a chance to negotiate for what he felt was the best situation for him, and took it. The place he decided was ultimately perplexing, but I don't blame someone for exercising their rights.

I think that's why the dunking. He presumably left somewhere he thought he might be logjammed only to sign with a place that was way harder to break in and goofed the whole thing up for himself and stalled out his own NHL timeline.

I'm venting because he didn't put the Caps first who put faith in drafting him and we have guys in Hershey developing who stuck with the program and won a championship. In a profession where team concept is super important, he sure hasn't convinced me he's a team first player. I want him to be successful as a person pursuing his dream, however he took a gamble and it didn't pan out like he believed. This is more of a testimony of how great the Cap's organization is by giving him another chance.

Flyers locker room must be a blast after Briere tried to ship Sanheim to Winnipeg days before his NTC and new contract kicks in. Worst of all is that...he actually failed and Sanheim is well aware of it now.

Yikes.

My optimistic soothesaying based on my (and now some of the popular Caps media) enthusiasm for both Miro and Leonard being ready (i.e. ready, not rushed) sooner than generally expected...

****

This year, starting say December, with Kuzy being showcased for a 1st minimum at the deadline, and Backs on LTIR for this year (can only assign status a year at at time).

Ovi - Strome - Wilson
Patches - CCM - Kuzy
Miro - Protas - Oshie
Beck - Dowd - NAK/Mantha/Phillips

NAK/Mantha/Phillips

Alternatively, this year, with Kuzy already moved for a 1st minimum, Backs on LTIR for this year.

Ovi - Strome - Wilson
Patches - CCM - Oshie
Miro - Protas - Mantha/Phillips/Frank/XXXX
Beck - Dowd - NAK

*****
2024 - 2025

Backs on LTIR for his final year.

Ovi - Strome - Wilson
Miro - CCM - Oshie
Leonard - Protas - Lappy
Beck/Suzy - Dowd - Phillips/Trineyev/XXXX

*******

Cristall possibly ready for 2025 -2026

*******

This could be altered by hockey trades for equivalent pieces and augmented by UFA adds next summer.

I'm suspicious that this is somewhat the road map GMBM are working as it maximizes flexibility both for future hockey trades (based on giving CMM and Protas a real chance at their natural positions) and for future UFA signings that fit.

Backy wants to play. I don't think you can assume LTIR for him at this point. Maybe he can play and maybe he can't, but he's clearly gonna try.

He absolutely says he does, I absolutely believe he wants to. Will he be able to is the question. What I would like to know is what has made every hockey player who had the same procedure not get more than another 45 games or so. Pain? Doctor's advice regarding further damage? If it's those it should easily be LTIR.

Unfortunately if he wants to play and doctors OK it, how well can he play? He may have to settle for a wing role down the lineup, spot minutes, or even just Natchos if he can't contribute. For his dignity, I hope that doesn't happen.

Yeah, I think we can give up hope he's gonna be LTIR'd for the coming year at this point. At least not to start the season so that the Caps would actually be able to use his cap to replace him.

I do think there's hope though that if he plays the same this year as he did last year, he'll be forced to acknowledge that he's holding the team back. When you start looking at how the roster for 24-25 if he's on LTIR, the possibilities are pretty exciting. Since I'm dreaming, I'll throw in a Kuznetsov trade as well. This is the bones of next years' roster sans Backstrom and Kuznetsov, with guys who'll need new contracts in italics:

Ovie-Strome-Wilson
XXX-XXX-XXX
Milano-XXX-Oshie
XXX-Dowd-XXX

Fehervary-Carlson
Sandin-Jensen
Alexeyev-TVR

Kuemper
Lindgren

Let's say Wilson and Sandin's new deals add up to 10M (I think they'll come in lower, but being conservative here), Patches plays more than 20 games to give them a 2M bonus overage, and we get the expected 4M cap increase. That team has 23M to fill out the forward ranks, and a bunch of promising young guys who can take middle six spots for cheap. Maybe Miro takes 2LW, Protas at ~1.5M takes 2RW, CMC at ~1.5M takes 3C, the 4th line wings come in around 1M each, and then two healthy scratches are about the same, and that leaves around 15.5M for the 2C. They could make a serious offer to Matthews if he hits the market. When they're on their yearly skid where they lose 3/4 of their games in January and heading for another top 10 pick, that dream will be what keeps me going!

I'm hoping Beck makes the big step permanently this year.

I read that for Kesler, his other hip went out while he was rehabbing the bad one….and that made him quit.

If 19 is pain free, everyone should expect him back and playing IMO. He’s already game tested….now it’s a matter of what part of a lost step he can hopefully reclaim this offseason.

Suzdalev reportedly going pro and that's going to put Hershey at around 20-eligible forwards. Something has to give. We have way too many forwards in Washington and in Hershey, with our top prospects having to either get top-nine minutes in WAS or HER. No way they are done.

Hopefully, Ottawa trades Debrincar somewhere else, and takes Mantha from us.
