Looking at the cap and roster ... Mantha getting moved has to happen. Such a tight cap. Next season seems to be very predictable.
No trade takers for now. I with wishful thinking Mantha has a bit of a bounce back season with the new coaching staff, Caps don't make the playoffs which makes Mantha tradable at the dead line.

Orlov ate the hardest minutes on our team for many years and was able to still put up solid offensive numbers and drive play as a puck mover from our own zone. I think MF has it in him, just still has a level that he has not hit yet.
I would like to see what Assistant Coach Mitch Love can do with MF and the rest of the D Group.

Nah. New coach will put him on PP1, he'll score 40 next year, and will re-sign with the Caps at 8 x 8.

I have spoken.

So does anyone have any real info on what kind of scheme or philosophy Carbery is going to employ?

Sorry gloomers, but im actually a little excited for next season. Feeling some fresh good vibes with the new coaches and the new shiny prospects.

This Phillips guy is interesting addition too. And the more ive chewed signing maxpac, the more im down with it. The injuries have kept him out of it, but havent slowed him down yet once he has actually got back in the game.

Have a feeling we are not done for the offseason yet.

It’s important to have optimism.

I'd rather DeBrincat over Nylander. I think the ask from Toronto would be way too high, and I have not liked Nylander's attitude since he held out against the Leafs. I have strong doubts about his cultural fit, which matters.

I hope GMBM is not as damn eager to give away our potential forward talant as some posters here want to do. I'd be OK with giving Kuzy first and foremost - would probably have to be done by getting futures from a team he is willing to go to - or having him be willing to go to Ottawa.

Other than that, I would craft a deal with our 1st next year protected. It seems Miro might be developing faster than many expected, and same with Suzy. I suspect Leonard may be able to get here sooner than many expect.

To move CMM/Protas or Lappy now, before they have had a chance to show when they can do at their natural positions in the NHL under a youth friendly coach (who knows these young players well) is bad asset management. Caps need a year with the young guns under Carberry to make good judgments on long term plans.

I mean who do they have that qualifies for a hockey trade? It’s pretty much Fehervary who could remotely be a centerpiece, right?

With Miro impressing at Development Camp it might open the door to him making the team this year. Maybe after some transition play in Hershey, or maybe he impresses in training cam and can obviously make a reL contribution. We will see.

Too soon to say , but it could impact plans.

They can have a 22 man roster with Patches on the injured list then trade Mantha with 50% retention to fit him 14-40 games into the season when Patches is healthy if no one else gets hurt. That’s my guess on the plan.

Fever or Kuzy would be fine with me. Maybe they are telling Kuzy he will be a scratch most nights if he doesn't accept the move...

I don't think so. I take "hockey trade" to mean position for position swap. Someone from the top 6 is going out. Or that's what they're trying to do.

We already knew that (Mantha or Kuzy or both).

I didn’t listen to the context but I guess so. I bet they’re going to have to attach quite a valuable piece just to unload one of those guys, on top of the cost to acquire their target.

Given this I hope their target is a good fit!

It's hard to do much center development if Backstrom, Kuznetsov, Strome and Dowd are here. To make matters worse, all of power play time is spoken for.

It's a conundrum. This is not a very good team and there are no open spots. Also, a lot of the old core group need babysitting. It's not like Ovechkin is an easy guy to play center with, for example.

Maybe, Carberry will have the balls to scratch some of the old timers. That would be a first.

Sigh. I miss ska8bot.

Maan, me too, I know they would have had my bonus question answered like ten minutes after I asked it with the full relevant CBA attached.

I'm not sk8 but I don't think Arizona would want that, I don't think it helps them unless Hagelin is actually fit to play and making less real salary than his cap. If he's still just LTIRetired unless there's a unique provision for teams at the cap floor I don't really know why they'd want to take on doing that even if insurance is technically paying.

You'd think we could trade Mantha and like a third round pick to Anaheim for future considerations at the very least. Guy is in a contract year, if he plays his ass off he can be flipped at the deadline. His cap would atleast give some cap flexibility for a deal. If we could trade Kuzy in a package for a legit top 6 forward, I with equitable salary coming back for let's say DeBrincat or Nylander, may as well throw a package together for Ehlers, Lindholm or Schiefele is the deal is right. Then maybe we're the third best team in the Metro.

At this point it would be dumb to trade mantha as a cap dump and pay for it. Bring him in, play him, see if he rebounds and then dump him at the deadline for a decent pick. If mantha can score 15-20 goals this year I could see someone getting desperate and offering up a late 1st. Even if he doesn't rebound there's no way a contender wouldn't take him as scoring depth for a late round pick with retention. At the deadline you can dump Mantha, Edmondson, NAK and hopefully Patch if he's able to play and will accept a move to a contender with his NMC. Rinse and repeat of last year with hopefully another nice lottery pick. Keep rebuilding.
