I mean, he's the general manager so he needs to figure something out. If I don't perform well at my job I get the boot. Nobody says, oh that's OK COVID caused us to lose profit! It's, COVID caused us to lose profit, find a way to fix it or hit the bricks.
If you trade equities and you want to sell a stock at a certain price and no one will buy at that price you can either look for different buyers, hold until you get your price, or lower your price and take a loss. You can’t force someone to buy what you’re selling unless they either want your asset at a certain price or are paid to buy your asset. It’s pretty clear given what we’ve seen so far that there’s no market for the players they want to get rid of so Mac can either wait it out and see if there’s a deal later in the summer or he can sell at a loss.

He has always done exactly what he said he would do. He’s always been aggressive and he’s never been afraid to make tough decisions or big moves. If he says they’re trying to change the top six but it’s not panning out it’s not for lack of effort. Doing something for the sake of doing something is a surefire way to ensure you overpay for a mediocre player. Some times the best deal is the one you don’t make.

I think people need to be careful with what they wish for when discussing their desire to see BMac fired. He’s been one of the better GMs in the league during his tenure. The grass is not always greener, just look at Toronto and Pittsburgh this summer. Treveling has made that team worse and Dubas looks like Hextall 2.0 thus far with the Pens.

I don't think we should dump BMac, I think he does a good job. I'm just saying all the excuses for him are getting old. The whole we're gonna retool instead of rebuild was a farce from the start and all the stary eyed fanatics bought it. There was absolutely no way possible we were "retooling" for another legitimate run in a short window with the assets we had available without setting us back five or more years after Ovechkins contract ends. Call it what it is, were on the first few steps of a rebuild. I'm cool with Mac doing it, just don't pretend like you're not.

Sorry gloomers, but im actually a little excited for next season. Feeling some fresh good vibes with the new coaches and the new shiny prospects.

This Phillips guy is interesting addition too. And the more ive chewed signing maxpac, the more im down with it. The injuries have kept him out of it, but havent slowed him down yet once he has actually got back in the game.

Have a feeling we are not done for the offseason yet.

Could it be that Fever hasn't shown more offensively because he isn't expected to be the primary offensive play driver on his pairing with the more offensively minded Carlson?
Orlov ate the hardest minutes on our team for many years and was able to still put up solid offensive numbers and drive play as a puck mover from our own zone. I think MF has it in him, just still has a level that he has not hit yet.

Well, there is the option to….at least, you know…. wait and see who is in training camp and who isn’t?

We still have 3mo. As other have stated, the man calls his shots, and he has delivered on this shots at a very high rate. He’s earned the benefit of the doubt, obviously, so let him work, and see where it all goes.

That would be better than the daily chirping and anxiety we see as each day goes by.

If we can get Nylander or Debrincat I have no qualms letting go of our first round pick next year for those two. Anyone else out there though is a hard pass. They’re young enough to build around. I don’t want anyone near 30 if we’re trading assets.

If gmbm has another big move up his sleeve as he's suggested and we all hope then we'd best be ready for either an overpay or someone else's damaged goods. Or both. Because it's pretty obvious we're not just going to unload our own problem children for someone's star.

But it is tight, regardless.
Yep. Reports that they're also considering adding Domi definitely make you wonder if Nylander isn't getting moved. Maybe a bundle of futures gives them flexibility to be aggressive at the deadline. But the Caps would need to move out Mantha/Oshie and I guess Milano or something. Not an easy sequence.

uhhhhh…..I’d say they‘re pretty F’ing tight….
They seemed friendly and like they enjoy playing together, but watching that I didn't get the impression they kept in touch or were close friends off the ice. And again, Backstrom's got probably got 1-2 years left, tops. Maybe the Caps give him a job in the organization or something, but otherwise I doubt he's a major factor when Nylander's deciding where he wants to spend the next 7 or 8 years of his life.

Look at the moves this offseason all over the league. So many teams are in the same boat. The flat caps and dodgy UFA year are hamstringing everyone. You have guys pushing back bigger deals on the blind hope they mean it this time when they say the cap will go up next year.

The contracts that are hanging us up aren't bad contracts. Nick wouldn't have gotten that deal if we'd known what would happen with the hip. All the other contracts are fine, some are just reaching the point where we knew they'd hurt. We were always going to hit the wall late in the careers of our core. It happened a couple years early almost exclusively because of Nick's hip, but Kuzy giving up and Mantha setting up shop in the doghouse aren't helping.

Every team goes through this, and we're already doing the things you do when this process starts.

I think people need to be careful with what they wish for when discussing their desire to see BMac fired. He’s been one of the better GMs in the league during his tenure. Exactly. Doesn't it feel to you like NHL GMs just play musical chairs; that damn near every vacancy goes to whichever GM was just let go somewhere else?

Screw that. I like our guy, and the better ones around the league stay put. Mac's not perfect, but he's proven to be savvy and sincere. Not much else to hope for.

At the very least, I like what he’s doing grabbing young ish (25 or lower) high scoring ahl players and bringing them into the organization, that’s something that hasn’t really been done by the team afaik

They signed Alex Giroux in 2006 at a similar age and situation but also signed Lindgren last year off of AHL success

Looks like Matthew Phillips really wanted to come here. Turned down a 2-year deal from Calgary to sign 1-year with us.

Another kick in the teeth for the Flames. This was a deserved one though as they've been toying with him for years.

Sucks for the Flames fans though. Geez.

Sounds like he trusted his coach more than the organization and followed him, which speaks well on Love I think

Sounds like Matthew Phillips will fit right in to where McMeh/Protas/Malenstyn are
He's 25 and barely been given a shot in the Bigs, lots of CGY comments that he's been deserving a full look, don't know how much his little MSL size affected his opptys
Duder will be well motivated to make the big squad, good luck to him

can't help but LOL at CGY, they're circling the drain, they're only off-season action (other than players signing elsewhere) is sigining Jordan Oesterle? ouch.
