Max Comtois out of ANA sounds like he isn't getting qualified. Seems like someone the Caps should be all over. They hit on Milano and Strome this could be another great opportunity.

24 years old 6-2 210 LW
Is he thought to be one of the players implicated in the sexual abuse scandal for the 2018 Canada WJC team? I've seen vague references to that attached to him when he's come up in trade proposals, but I haven't followed the story closely enough to know the details. Looking at his stats and profile, it seems like if there wasn't something going on off the ice there wouldn't be any reason for the Ducks not to qualify him?

I will admit I have only read articles and haven't followed too in depth, I don't want to make light of it but the whole situation just seems so vague I don't think we will ever know the exact details of players (which likely means there are some bigger names involved).

Who knows why they don't qualify, an abundance of LW's, they don't like where the price will be, number of contracts, etc. I am all for adding as many 22-25 year olds as possible on normal RFA type bridge prove it deals - like Strome and Milano

Home opener against Penguins on Friday night.

I may be an old man yelling at clouds, but could that schedule be any worse formatted? The months run together, team logos instead of names, and are blue or red home games? Oh, there's a key, like in a science experiment. Helpful, especially for the color blind. Won't someone please consider the color blind?

Colorado suddenly has extra picks from the Newhook trade (they now have 27, 31, and 37) and needs a 2C. I hope GMBM is calling and trying to sell them Kuzy.
They already acquired RyJo, not sure they need Kuzy.

Now Winnipeg clearly needs Kuzy, be they are probably not on his trade list.

Or, another way to look at it. Newhook, a 30 point over 82 games C just went for 32 and 37 in this Draft...

GMBMs job is to sell Kuzy - a 55 point C who has potential for 70+ using the Newhook deal as a benchmark. Hello Detroit, Hello Chicago...

Why do people on here seem to want to get poor value for our assets. I do not get it. I hope GMBM is not as defeatist.

Ehhhh it is apples to oranges.

Kuznetsov is about 10 years older, probably $3-4 million more, for only two years vs. whatever Newhook signs for.

I think if you swapped Kuzy into that trade you are lucky to come away with one of 32 or 37

I’d be good w the 32 OA. Get cap space, maneuver ability. IF you can then deal Mantha, you have almost 20m in space. And with added picks in the draft to deal for players.

It all needs to happen soon, though.

And if the Caps can LTIR Backstrom (assuming he’s last years Backstrom), then 30m in space.

Yowzers!

With Wilson off the table, Kuznetsov trades deemed as unlikely, no takers for Mantha, and Backstrom still presumably occupying cap space - I’m not expecting much to change. They’ll sign a 2nd/3rd line tweener to replace Sheary and a 18 min/night defenseman to round out the D and head into next season.

BMac sure sounded optimistic they were going to change up the top six as of yesterday. I tend to believe him.

No, I agree…garbage that the individual team logos are not properly colored.

Yeah, this is the feeling I've been getting lately. If that's the case I at least hope they eschew the annual middle six tweener and 3rd pairing D signings and just let McMichael and Protas compete to replace Sheary and Alexeyev play 3LD. If we're gonna throw away a year we might as well play the kids along the way.

What about Scott Mayfield for the D? Could be a serviceable addition not much offense but big D may be able to eat minutes. Wonder what he’s going to cost.

He's pretty good defensively but brings nothing offensively to the table. That'd be fine for a 3LD, but Washington has two of those already in Fehervary and maybe Alexeyev. Combined with his projected 4 x $4.5 million projected from Evolving Hockey I'd pass on him.

I think their 2024 1st round pick could be in play at some point this offseason, but yeah things look bleak if they're just going to re-run the same playbook from the past few years.

Would he work to let Carlson stop baby sitting Fever and instead play offense more?

Hard to tell I suppose. I think Carlson actually does better beside guys who contribute offensively instead of stay at home guys.

I’d try Sandin beside Carlson personally. I think they have a lot of complementary skillsets despite both being dubbed offensive defensemen.
