Wilson trade rumors swatted down. Also some Michkov talk and whether he'll even meet with some teams. Marek predicts he slides to 8.

Here's a transcription of the part about Wilson for anyone who can't listen right now, with a bit of meandering in the middle taken out.
During the Final I really didn't get a chance to look into it too much. I heard the reports, I'll be honest I didn't hear any of the information myself, but I heard the reports, so finally I looked into it now that the SCF is over, and Jeff, I got rejected... I was rejected like Bam Adebayo was defending me. I was told it's not happening. I was told that the Capitals want to keep him, and they consider him a big part of their future. So someone said to me "make up other stuff like you always do, don't make up that one."
That's pretty emphatic.

Can we stop with the "trade Wilson...who can say what's right and wrong?" sea lion barking?

Here we are again in a thread labeled Speculation, but speculative discussion of ifs and maybes is met with "Jesus f***ing Christ" and being told we're barking like animals? All I saw was a discussion about the possibility of trading a player in his first UFA contract year. Isn't that a normal thing to do here?

Should we ditch the Speculation label? Only speculate about g00n-approved items? Can you give us a list? Could we maybe create a forum feature that alerts us when speculation reaches a level that offends your sensibilities?

Yeah this is way too much whining.

If you can fill up endless space with "speculation" and other bullshit then you can tolerate some 3 word critiques.

Jesus f***ing christ.

Anyone know anything about Kailer Yamamoto, it seems like he is being pushed out of Edmonton, 25 when the season starts, a 20 goal season already, seems to be on the cheap to move

He's listed at 5'8, 153 lbs and he had 25 points in 58 games this year while playing mostly top 6 minutes (most common linemates were Draisaitl, Kane, RNH, and McDavid). Sounds like a younger but worse version of Sheary.

Having watched a bunch of EDM games this year - a poor man’s Sheary is exactly what he is. He was terrible in the playoffs - just got thrown around like a rag doll. I couldn’t believe they had no one better (even from their AHL pool) to play with McD, Drai or even RNH.

Hard pass. On a team where Zach Hyman scored 83 points last season and where three other top six forwards scored > 100 points he had 29 points. His underlying stats aren’t awful but he’s exactly the opposite of what this team needs.

I don't hate Kailer Yamamoto, but I would be pretty upset if he was acquired with the intention of being anything more than a 3rd liner. He's not the type of top 6 impact that this team needs.

i like Sharangovich. He's on the table and there's a good chance he'll bounce back. High motor and very high effort player with deadly release, can score 20-25 and plays pk.

TBH if we traded Tom Wilson we would be using the futures to look for the next Tom Wilson.

I don’t think that’s the point of a Wilson trade at all. The point is to get a better (and younger) player than Tom Wilson, which I think will be available if he is put on the trade market.

How else do people expect the team to get better? What assets do the Capitals have to make substantial improvements this offseason? Or next?

It’s also a matter of what Wilson wants on his next deal. We weren’t talking about trading Orlov last June, then he apparently asked for big time money, and here we are.

So as of today, I'm looking at the roster replacements for the coming season as:

McMichael for Eller
Malenstyn for Hathaway/Smith
Protas for Johansson
Snively for Sheary
Sundin for Orlov
with Frank in the wings.

For the aforementioned forwards, I'm seeing that their salaries would eat in to about half of the Projected Cap Space of $7,313,333 that Cap Friendly has for the Capitals. Plus there's still Fehervary's RFA status that needs to be addressed.

Bottom line, limited cap room perhaps for dumpster diving, i.e. waivers etc.. But I don't envision any big splashes for this team this summer.

That younger player isn’t going to be better now, maybe not in time to help see Ovechkin out properly even.

With the team getting younger, team culture will play an important role, both on the ice and in the locker room. Remember back in 2010, the Capitals won the Presidents Cup with 121 points but I believe it was RJ Umberger who said about the Caps that they would not perform well in the playoffs as they don't know how to play the right way. I think there was a time where even Mike Knuble may have said something similar to a lesser extent.

Both Tom Wilson and TJ Oshie bring a culture that you want the young players to be around and have it rub off on them.

I liked Orlov's game but it's apples and oranges when comparing him to Wilson when it comes to their influence on this team.
