Younger but smaller, less physical and IMO with minimal upside from what we've seen. He's cheaper and his salary slots in better on the third pair but he's not all that great I don't think. Maybe he acclimates better eventually but I don't see a raw skillset that leads me to believe he's top 4 material.

Maybe they can get a top two round pick for TVR at the deadline but competitively they won't come out ahead in that exchange. They should have enough cap space via other losses to not really need to make rejiggering the blueline much of a priority (at least not for another relatively unproductive player offensively). As-is they're arguably (reportedly) sitting their #4 tonight. For a team that can't score that seems like a bad idea if they want to win.
Dude has time to get better still at 26. Jensen and TVR both advanced their games here. Bear doesn't have any glaring weaknesses that I see. He only needs to man the 3rd pair well and try to get better.

I see this as exactly the chance to get a premium for one of TVR or Jensen at the deadline on top of younger/cheaper.

My big issue with a JC/JT swap is it doesn’t make sense for Washington from a timing perspective. If they trade Carlson (who is still far and away their best defenseman and still a 1RD) then they’re going to be a worse team. This team was awful when Carlson was hurt last year.

If they’re trading JC they’re essentially starting a rebuild or a heavy retool and in that case I don’t think someone like JT helps them. If they traded Carlson I’d expect them to do it for young players or draft assets and I don’t think they’d do anything with him this year.

Ship JT to Colorado and see if you can snag one of their defensemen. Or see if the Bruins (gulp) would be interested. I think there are better trading partners for Toronto than Washington if acquiring a defenseman is on your wishlist, unless Jensen or TvR interest you.
I could see a 40% or 50% retained JT commanding a very good return, so maybe that's the play. I agree though - I have no interest in having JT on the roster. I don't think it helps the nursing home logjam the caps have up front.

He’s taken a little criticism, makes some mistakes, but not bad IMO.

Still looks rusty to me with timing.

Thanks guys. Yeah he's passable but doesn't really move the needle. Good outlet passes but struggles in defending.

This! It was a chess move to get younger and move 1 or 2 pieces on controlled contracts for good value while picking up a player for free. Subtle move to build assets and get younger. Goal here wasn’t to get better.

The criticisms of him have been fair and accurate for the most part but he did score an important goal last night and we haven't gotten a whole lot of offense from the D this season so that's a plus

What are people’s thoughts on AA?

I think it’s shit or get off the pot time. Give him an extended look, or move him.

Seemingly, since they haven’t waived him, he has some value.

Incomplete?

I suspect he's nothing more than a depth defenseman, but we know Edmundson is a really bad defenseman. Kind of silly to see Edmundson never eat a healthy scratch while Alexeyev has been piling them up.

Interesting its a different injury. They arent really saying what the injury is. All I know is Ovie would play after a car crash so this has to be something to keep an eye on.

I still stand by the fact he's been hurt most of the season. Early on this year I noticed cupping marks on his neck a few different times when his jersey was pulled to one side or the other. He also looked stiff as a board early in the campaign. Maybe it's a neck/back issue. Possibly the shoulder. Recently he's loosened up some and looks a little better but maybe he had a set back or wanted to take some time to see if whatever it is can get back to 100% without game action for a week.

Rumour mill is saying Chychrun won't extend with the Sens. We'll certainly have the Cap space to entice him but probably not the cup odds. Wouldn't mind him being the successor to JC though.

With Sandin (assuming he extends)/Fehervary on the LD long-term (and AA/HHA as 6-7-8 types), I'd prefer to see the Caps go after a RHD given the age of Carlson (34), TvR (32), and Jensen (33). While I do like Iorio and Chesley (as prospects), the Caps could use a 'Sandin' on the right side.

Related sidebar: Bear is somewhere in-between since he's 26. I see him as a medium-term placeholder until Iorio and/or Chesley is ready.

This offseason we went over alot of these players that would be in the for sale bin at the deadline if GMBM pulls the trigger. I like playing hard for the good kids and new coach but thinking we can do anything more then get 2 home games in the playoffs is fools gold

Both goalies
D:
Edmonson
TVR
Jensen
F:
Mantha
Dowd
Max
Oshie
Phillips if he has any value
NAK again if any value
Kuz is we find a sucker willing to take him

With NB19 retirement we can eat alot of money on any of these players to get more picks from a contender.

Need to seriously find RHD prospect(s) with NHL Calibur offensive punch even if they lack a bit in their own zone. If we can aquire one this deadline even if they're a year or two out that would be a nice piece of the puzzle.

Been a while since we drafted a Calgary Hitmen player, might be due. Yakemchuk seems to be rising pretty steadily though.

It's looking like a good draft for them, so any first round pick might connect on one. Jensen and Carlson have served us well for a long time now, but it's time to put their replacements in the pipeline.

Easier to find in the draft when rolling the dice that way otherwise by committee for the next level down.

Is Montreal really gonna inflate another asset and return a high pick?

We already got swindled with Edmundson. They somehow got a 1st for Chiarot. Now Monahan?
