Speculation: Caps Roster General Discussion (Coaching/FAs/Cap/Lines/etc) | 2023-24 Regular Season Edition

They really need to put Ovi back with Strome. I’m not even that mad at Kuzy right now, but he needs to be with other playmakers that are good with puck possession, and can make sense of his goofy decision making.

Ovi - Strome - Wilson
CMM - Kuzy - Mantha
Milano - Lappy - Protas
Beck - Dowd - NAK

No Phillips. Can't even take this seriously.

I mean, its understandable why coaches want to play Ovi, Wilson and Kuz... they have produced in the past at this level. They are all for sure struggling right now, but at least they have a lot of history of playing well in the NHL. Phillips is a nobody. I understand his underlying numbers are good, but he isn't producing with us either. I'm all for trying new forwards to get this offense going but someone like Phillips has to do a lot more than just having good fancy stats - and that means goals and assists.

He's their 5th most productive player on a rate basis. I think if you want him to score more the complaint should be that he should get more ice time to replace one of the unproductive top 6 players.

What type of production are you expecting with that TOI? Does he have to be the best producer on the team on a rate basis? Is being the 5th best producer not good enough?

It's not like any of the top guys are doing anything else besides not producing at 5v5. Their power play stinks, their team defense stinks, etc.

A lot more than his current 5g, 21pt pace….not a lot of undersized AHL/NHL tweeners making a living for long at the higher level on those numbers….

That's at even strength, right? To be fair, it includes a couple of guys who haven't played much. If you filter on 100 minutes he jumps to 3rd.

3rd on the team in even strength point production per 60 minutes.

That's not even a fancy stat.

On a per minute basis, not a per game basis.

Yes 5v5. I didn't include a TOI filter just to conservatively estimate his rank on the team.

You‘re not staying in the NHL long if you‘re falling back to a per minute defense….reality is you must produce and he’s barely staying in the lineup at his production level. He‘s just gotta deliver more in less to make himself a keeper. Nothing to debate really.

Why is a per game stat more valid than a per minute stat? I'm sorry, but you're going to have to explain that viewpoint.

Waaaa….don't get caught up in board shorthand…..I cheer as loud as any MFer here when 92, 45, whomever scores for us. I’ve earned my stripes son.

I just don‘t let the truth about a player‘s game sway my overall judgement because he has a goofy smile, or is a tiny Rudy-type player.

lol….I have no problem with small…I do have a problem with small and limited talent….

Goals and assists…..produce, simple. If he does he stays, if not, well you know….I want guys who produce, bottom line.
