surprised this isnt talked about more or maybe I just missed it but any thought to moving Ovi down a line or 2? Anyone think he is hurt? or is this just finally him being normal a human?
Nothing seems to be wrong with him other than his puck handling seems to be on the decline. He is still getting his chances, last game could have had 1-2 goals easily. Overall im not seeing much difference compared to last few years.

Did we suddenly acquire a new top-line?

Ovechkin has 8 points in 10 games and leads the team. Should we drop him down the line-up for sheltered 3pt Sonny Milano? Or 2pt Anthony Mantha? Perhaps 0pt Beck Malenstyn does better there?

haha easy easy.....i went to the columbus game and yes ovi had a few chances. Just wonder how much longer until he is upset about the lack of goals. was not calling for the promotion of any of the disasters on the team. Just maybe ovi needs a little more of a break. One things for sure, Columbus is a train wreck dumpster fire. Caps had them stuck in their own zone 5v5 twice for extended time.

Based on everything we have read and heard over the past almost 20 years, Last thing Ovi will ask for or be happy with is a break. This is an individual who prides himself on playing every game he can and staying at the top level. There are many other things wrong with this team that need to be fixed including but not limited to one of their top centers quitting, no real replacement aside from young guys "will get a shot at this position and see how it goes", one $5M+ player that is not performing up to his contract, another $5M + player who never performed up to his contract and never will.

I just dont see how demoting Ovi to third line or something will fix all those other problems. Imagine the media shitstorm, Ovechkin demoted to the third line. I dont think teams needs this right now.

I don't think you move him from the top line unless somebody takes it from him. Nobody is even threatening.

I would like to see him given normal PP shifts instead of the full 2 minutes every time. Manage his minutes to keep him fresher later in the game/season, give some kids much needed PP experience, allow for some new looks on the PP (make it hard on the opposing coaches), etc

Typically, you’re just helping the other team by pulling him off the PP early…..but I agree you don’t demote him until it’s taken from him by the play of another….

I don’t think subbing him off early is giving anyone (significantly) different looks. The system is the system…..

I also don’t see much of a need to save him (or anyone) for later in the season….as regular season play is all we’re likely going to get.

He doesn't really play anything like someone frustrated in lack of goals would play. He actually keeps passing up great shooting opportunities to try and set up his linemates. I kind of wish he'd rather just take the shot himself more. The odds of the puck ending in the back of the net reduce greatly in anyone elses stick.

I mean he started the season way down in the lineup. One of his original linemates has 1 point on the season, the other isn't even in the NHL any more :naughty:

Seriously, he is top line player on this team. Tells you something about the team but that's how it is. Now, power play is a whole different story. Caps have 31st ranked PP and that has A LOT to do with Ovechkin and the whole system being setup to feed him. At this point, I would welcome the coaching stuff giving someone else a go.

Crazy what scoring 900 goals does for not letting a slump get into your head

Kind of disappointed if we have no new ideas on the PP.

Looking ahead, what kind of a "young player" could we get if we package Fehervary with one or two of our extra 2nds for '25?

Is Lundell, Pinto, Farabee too far out?
How about Cates, Lafreniere, Kakko?

Would anyone here want to tryout Puljujarvi when he is ready to get back on ice?

Would anyone be interested in sending one of the '25 2nds for Monahan, or maybe a 3rd for Duclair or Garland?

Looking to target U30 players that could boost up scoring both, short and long term :)

Said it before, and will say it AGAIN (not meant at the poster, apologies)—

Travis Konecny. He’s THE GUY. And he’s pricing himself up, already. He’s the guy I wanted to target.

I like Tomas Hertl — a LOT — but he’s now pretty expensive and 29.

I need to keep looking

I wonder what Caps could get for Darcy Kuemper from Edmonton. Oilers are primed to make some questionable decisions. I mean even more questionable than the ones they usually make.
If we could someone get a Varly trade package from a desperate Oilers team

Konecny (or maybe Lindholm) would be ideal, but also out of our price range id figure. Dont wanna involve Leonard, Cristall or 1sts, and cant see it happening without maybe two of those assets..

With Hertl i wouldnt risk it. It might be a headache we dont need in few years.

Id want us to go after compromise, nothing too expensive in assets and cap/years to interfere with long term plan, but enough to give a little boost for short term.

I like comeback-Monahan at 29 years and propably doable with something in range of 4-5 years. Would have loved to get ROR for the contract Preds signed him for.
