To state (what should be) obvious - we don’t know what the issue is TODAY.

So, yes, it can still be libelous. Just give the site, and the mods a break here.
I think we can give the mods a break based on the site rules, but maybe HF needs better lawyers who have heard of Section 230.

So what do we do with this guy? Just buy him out after the season? I can't see anyone taking him in trade and I think his time here has to be done at this point.
Does this board fundamentally not understand the buy out system? Why would you buy out a guy with one season left when you’re not going to be competing anytime soon?

That all said I feel like Kuzy’s next contract is a short KHL stint and then retirement. He’s made it clear in interviews he’s been eyeing retirement and isn’t interested in a long career. Personal issues aside, he’s been up front about not being a hockey lifer.

Some players stay in that program a very long time, much longer than two weeks. I’m guess what you’re saying is we cannot count on salary cap relief from this
Yeah, I think Spencer Knight has been in it for a very long time now (for example).

Seems odd to go with Sgarbossa over Lapierre for an indefinite period if the former's recall is anything but temporary cap maneuvering.
AHL is on their Allstar break. Could be Washington wanted someone today & Sgarbossa was close by (in Hershey) while Lappy was not. I dont know, I don't social media stalk the players. Or maybe they want Lappy to keep playing in Hershey.

Simple, only two options:

1. If you think you have a chance to be competitive next season, buy him out.
2. If not, let the contract expire and put him in the press box.

Don’t blame me for the truth today….

….as someone else said….if you want to fire up the tank, trade him, but let’s not pretend he won’t matter to our competitiveness.
The team's already tanking. They aren't competitive. Sure, the team will get worse, but they already suck.

So for the Caps. Can we still trade Dowd?

What would the centers be if we do?

Strome
CMM
Protas
Lappy

Ok still trade Dowd if a 1st rounder is the offer
Yea. This is probably the way.

I’d give the team 5 games to see how they do without “the Kuzy Distraction” hanging over their heads.

They did it w 19 earlier (for very different reasons), and it somehow settled the team. I’d wager it will happen again here.

Or else torpedo it completely.

What do I know?

Best case scenario is that he agrees to a mutual termination. Caps shed cap and Kuzy goes to KHL. Problem is $7.8M is a lot to leave on the table for Kuzy who is clearly a mess.

But seems like there is a plan that has been mutually agreed to where Kuzy gets paid out this season under program in exchange for mutual termination of contract. His 2024-2025 comp includes $2M bonus and $6M salary. Cap hit is 7.8M. So pay the $2M and he terminates contract and forfeits $6M. Can make that up in KHL although over a couple of seasons.

Could Sutter play 4C for the Caps? At least to finish the season?

Serious question for those with some insight.....I have no idea.
Sutter is a very good AHL player. Size. Kills penalties. Wins faceoffs. Doesn’t score at all. I think he translates to 4C role in NHL. But he won’t be anywhere close to Dowd for at least two seasons. Maybe never.

I have been suggesting letting him play 4RW and moving NAK up when needed. I’d still rather see that first. Part of why i was surprised he wasn’t called up.

I’m not sure I’d assume Kuz wants to go back to Russia.

He and his wife own a multi-million dollar estate, they have a small kid(s?), and they’ve been in the US for a good spell.

Sure, he may not be a Cap for long, nor long for the NHL…..but he may just retire.

And focus on himself, ignoring the rigors of being a pro athlete.

I am rooting for him. Always.

Thanks. Never really seen him play. I saw the good size, I heard about the faceoffs, plenty old enough now.

Of course I wasn't expecting Dowd, I was just wondering if he could be an NHL level competent place holder.

Seems he was cleared sometime over the summer and was back for training camp. So if we go by that timeline, Kuzya is done till next year.
It seems to be a case by case basis. Judging by the press release and the information goon posted, it appears as if he has regular counselor visits and depending on how that goes, they either clear him or tell him he needs more time in the program.

I wonder where he generally lives. Everyones knows AO is in Great Falls/Mclean right by Tysons if I remember correctly.

They should really see if Protas can play center for a decent stretch and call up Miroshnichenko or Frank instead
Yes indeed. What exactly does Sgarbossa offer?? He's 31 years old and hasn't played in the NHL for 1.5 sessons. We know what to expect from him (very little) so why bother playing him. He's not going to be a difference maker. Give the younger guys a chance for God's sake

Well considering the full blown tank is yet to come I think this is also a bit of a reward for an AHL veteran from an AHL franchise that generally will spend on top AHL veterans. I'm sure every single NHL game for someone like Sgarbossa is precious.
