Yes indeed. What exactly does Sgarbossa offer?? He's 31 years old and hasn't played in the NHL for 1.5 sessons. We know what to expect from him (very little) so why bother playing him. He's not going to be a difference maker. Give the younger guys a chance for God's sake
Not to mention he is probably the most valuable Bear. Sutter can only stay up to 30 days and then has to clear waivers. They could be concerned about that or want to leave those 10 games till later. Sgarbossa the same 10 games. Frank is waiver exempt. So is Lapierre but i think they want him to play a bunch of games in Hershey.

So for the Caps. Can we still trade Dowd?

What would the centers be if we do?

Strome
CMM
Protas
Lappy

Ok still trade Dowd if a 1st rounder is the offer

Doesn't change the Dowd situation at all. Trade him this season, while his value is peaking. They shouldn't hold out because Kuzy is unavailable. Dowd and Kuzy's roles on the team don't overlap, anyway.

I think he’s also in MacLean. If you believe the news.

Kuzy and Ovi live in what I consider Great Falls, even though their addresses say McLean. They live 5 mins away from each other. Whenever I walk at Great Falls or Difficult Run park, I pass Kuzy's house on the way home and give him a friendly beep and single-finger salute (hence my recent comment about leaving my altered Kuzy gear out front).

I will be praying for Kuzy to get better. Yes he has been a disappointment, and very frustrating the last couple years. But he helped bring the cup to DC and is still a cap. His trade value is now about shot, so the best thing for all parties is for him to find happiness and get back to enjoying hockey.

Not at all suprised, the writing has been on the wall for years. Still, sad to see and wish nothing but best for Kuzy to overcome the struggles "whatever it is".

I dont get the backlash on calling Score-boss up. The guy has effing earned it. He has been the man for Hershey. Being 31 is lame excuse to not give it where it belongs, and would be bad message to send to Heshey. Especially the way things are going, a lot of guys can get their shot at it with the second half of our season. Lets see if someone can step up.

I am probably the only one talking about Sgarbossa in a negative light. I don't follow Hershey so wasn't aware that he is almost point per game over the last few seasons.

I thought he was a fringe NHL'er who gets called up occassionally to fill in for injuries. He has never "stuck" at the NHL level, so my comment was along the lines of "he's not moving the needle so would it be better to try some of the young prospects and give them a look".

Get well soon, Kuznetsov.

I don't think Sgarbossa is here long-term. Our schedule in the next 5 games is absolutely brutal so i'd guess they are rewarding Sgarbossa for his good season here instead of throwing Lapierre to the wolves against 4 of the best teams in the league. We'll see Lapierre back here at some point for sure.

I'm not one to preach that we have to be eternally loyal to the Caps that won the Cup, but this seems.... unhinged. Kuznetsov was the best Caps player in those playoffs, filled the center vacancy that had plagued the team since Fedorov left, scored the goal that finally vanquished the Penguins, and Washington doesn't come anywhere near winning the Cup without his herculean effort. That doesn't mean he has a blank check to be a lifelong Capital or to drag the team down in the present, but this vitriol towards him now is not just a little bit much, but quite a bit too much.

I'm actually hoping that we finally get to end this Kuznetsov -era in Washington so that i can go back to liking the guy. He seems like a really funny guy and i feel like he's being liked in the room for a long time. I don't know if he is anymore given he mails it in year after year. But this current experiment has lasted for so long already and his decline has been so steep that it's really hard to keep liking the guy even with his 2018 heroics.

Just move on from this nightmare already so i can go back to remembering Kuznetsov from that 2018 run rather than all the shit that came after it.

Best case scenario is that he agrees to a mutual termination. Caps shed cap and Kuzy goes to KHL. Problem is $7.8M is a lot to leave on the table for Kuzy who is clearly a mess.

But seems like there is a plan that has been mutually agreed to where Kuzy gets paid out this season under program in exchange for mutual termination of contract. His 2024-2025 comp includes $2M bonus and $6M salary. Cap hit is 7.8M. So pay the $2M and he terminates contract and forfeits $6M. Can make that up in KHL although over a couple of seasons.

Why would he do that, though? The Caps have no leverage here afaik.

Kuzy could simply walk away from the Caps and collect salary for another 1.5 years while in the program, right? I don't think it's like LTIR where the doctor clears you and you MUST come off LTIR.

For the assistance program you can't return unless the people helping you clear you, but I don't know if that means you're forced to go back to your team and leave the program.

"These guys say you're cured."
"I'm not cured. I'm still struggling. I want a second opinion. I'm not going back on the road right now. I can't."
"Oh but our rules say you must MUAAAHAHAHHAHAA!"

Seems a bit odd.

So IMO it's at least a little bit possible Kuzy has already played his last game as a Cap, or maybe even as an NHLer.

Team stinks and is boring is one reason, but how much of this is due to the move to Monumental?

I kind of forgot Milano was on the team while he was on IR.

As others have said, there's not much to enjoy about Caps hockey these days. Hopefully Milano will really hotdog it up, if only for entertainment's sake.

This has been going on a long time with Kuzy. Think management finally dropped the hammer and figured out a way to get him off the ice. Wish the best for the guy, but at his price point, he has to WANT to play and he clearly doesn't care like he used to. If that is attributed to mental illness and/or drugs, or an addiction to video games, something had to be done.

4% Monumental
20% general economics
20% team sucks and is boring

Here its over 50 usd a month to see all the Caps games and its coming to a point where its time for tough decisions if it keeps up this way.

I watch through other means and i've gone from watching every game the last 5-6 years to watching like half the games. Feel bad about it but the hockey is really boring at times.
It’s the parity…..depth and systems have never meant more and there‘s just less star power to make a lot of matchups entertaining every night. Guys get paid big and early in their careers, and the game has lost some intensity IMO.
