We have the worst luck with injuries.

Need the youngsters and depth guys to step up big time to stay afloat in the Playoffs race. Oshie and Mantha needs to stay healthy too. All that could be too much to ask for...

Mentally preparing myself for an extension for Lars to be announced at some point. Eller makes no sense with Ovechkin. Ovi had his best game of the season last game and played parts of the game with Strome so Lavi decides to promote Eller from 3C to 1C? Weird thought process.

I do, however, really like that they separated Carlson and Fehervary. I like those pairs a lot.

The Connor Brown news is unfortunate but they should be able to weather it pretty easily. Having him be a temporary first line replacement for Wilson was always a bit optimistic IMO. He’s never really done more than have a third line impact and with McMichael/Snively/Protas they should have that covered.

The D pairs will be interesting for sure. I think long-term finding Carlson a partner that can maximize his playoff output is in order, and maybe Orlov is that guy. Besides last season Orlov has been consistently good in the postseason so he’s a sensical option. I’m not sure how the Jensen-Fehervary pairing will do but it’s worth a shot.

So how do they replace Brown? (If they do, which they do need to)
Brown is on IR, not LTIR. So that points to them thinking there's a least a chance hes going to miss less than 10 games/30 days. They can retroactively place him on LTIR later if they need.

I don't see the need to replace him immediately. They have young forwards internally they can plug in, Wilson on the mend (but coming back hopefully in December), and it's not like Brown had been a difference maker so far in the season.

Per Samantha, they are still determining is surgery is needed. That may mean its not a torn ACL, or at least not season ending, but not a short term deal at all.

I don't see a penalty either way. Just unlucky.

Checking a guy in the back that precarious distance from the boards when he's in a vulnerable position is boarding penalty, no?

Anyway my point was if that was Tom Wilson they'd invent a f***ing penalty.

Sucks about Brown, hate to see it. However, he hasn’t been very impactful, and it does give more room for youngster(s). He doesn’t seem strong enough to play the board battle/puck retrieval role that he was ostensibly brought into fill while Wilson is out. Still, very small sample size, and terrible luck.

Don’t know what to make of top line Eller, but your boy CMM is centering Mojo and Mantha, two guys playing very well - so let’s be excited he’s getting a good opportunity.

Wonder if they could pry Timo Meier out of San Jose. He’s 26, a UFA at the end of the year, and has a $6M cap hit. San Jose is terrible and has started the season 0-5. The price would probably be prohibitively high though, I can’t imagine BMac will trade the 2023 1st rounder with so much uncertainty this year.

Timo Meier is one of few things that would make see the Caps as having even the slightest chance of playoff success. I say it's worth a 2023 first unless we're a lottery team which i don't will be the case

Sheary and Ovi seem to have good chemistry though. But Eller there is weird. Maybe he'll fill in for whenever Carlson/Orlov go for a rush

We need D help. I know the injuries are to the forwards but I still think our defense sucks.

The SC winning goaltender is going to struggle keeping pucks out of the net unless these guys really step up, or we get a couple of strong shutdown guys.

Not gonna happen, tho.

At least they're shaking up the D pairs. It kind of had to happen.

Brown will be missed mostly on the PK with a lot of minutes to spread around with Wilson & Hagelin out. In the meantime I'm interested in Protas, Snively & Mantha getting shots on the PK. All have elements to be disruptive and Johansson could also get more time. It sure seems like they're determined to get Eller going in all facets but I'd be surprised if he really gets going as a key two-way contributor. I can see them having a lot of interest in Toews when the time comes and he's made available.

Eller should in no situation be playing on the first line. Not even when he was at his best, let alone now.

And this has nothing to do with CMM. Hope he gets more than 5 minutes though.

Toews is Uber washed up at this point. I sure hope not.

I wouldn’t say Toews is washed but I don’t think he provides more than Strome or Kuznetsov. And he’s defensively porous so I don’t know that he can just slot in at 3C over Eller either.

I want to see more from Fehervary before concluding if he needs to be moved down to 3LD but they need to make sure the Carlson pairing is humming, whoever his partner is. They can’t have Carlson repeat his recent postseason performances, so for that reason I’m in favor of seeing how he does alongside Orlov.
