Even without those interesting stats, you see them over-passing when they have good opportunities, and end up not even getting a shot off. It’s like most guys are afraid to shoot and play hot potato with the puck when attacking. It’s been kinda infuriating.

They (mostly) have great structure when defending, but seem to have no idea what to do when they are on the rush, attacking. They mostly flip it back and forth and fumble it before even getting a shot off. Or when they’re cycling and doing a bit of the weave really well, no one seems to have an idea how to actually try and score - and usually settle for a shot from the point.

This is the stuff that gets me frustrated with Lavi’s coaching.

This is what I see, too. I think Alan May has talked about getting to the net, the dirty goals, etc. You expect that from him as a general philosophy but he's not wrong. There's too much perimeter f***ery and focus on making the flashy play. It's as if they're overcompensating for lack of team speed by passing or something.

"Gee we can't blaze past teams anymore but we need to be fancy...let's just pass until we create a pretty goal!"

Stop. Get to the net and do work.

This is why the bigger, tougher, harder working players are getting sweaters and why Kuzy keeps ending up in Lavi's doghouse.

If they move their feet, go to the net, play with tempo and support, and get shots and rebounds they're a threat to win any given game. They have enough talent to do that.

And that's what frustrates me...knowing they can play like they did that one game early on...maybe vs the Senators...but they just don't.

Gotta figure Milano and maybe Johansen draw in.
With Malenstyn also out on IR, I’d imagine Pilon or Snively will play at 4LW and Milano will take the Snively/CMM spot in the middle six. LuJo seems more likely to be insurance ahead of a road trip.

Pilon is a right shot too, so again he could factor into PP2 just by dint of handedness. And I believe is also a regular PKer in Hershey, which likely gives him an edge.

Do these players have to clear waivers again to rejoin Hershey?
All three will need waivers only after they’ve spent 30 cumulative days on the NHL roster or played in 10 NHL games. Milano strikes me as the only one of the three who could be a waivers claim if he performs well, and he’ll need to outperform expectations for that to happen given even a team like Arizona passed.

Definitely. They had that stretch in the offensive zone where they kept it in for like 2 minutes straight and Craig was going nuts on the call about how amazing it was... All I could think was, "Yeah. Wow. 2 solid minutes of perimeter hockey and zero shots. Awesome. How many points do we get for that?"

Who would have thought there'd ever be a day that Marcus Johansson was our best netfront forward?

I miss Tom.

Just watched the Caps-VGK game and then the Buffalo-Pittsburgh game. Buffalo play superfast, superskilled and incredibly high-event hockey. Like 2-3 consecutive 2 on 1s both ways. They're like the antithesis of the Caps right now, very entertaining, young and fast but not very sturdy.

That was like 2009-2010 Capitals.

Buffalo are a very fun team to watch. They play with a lot speed and their top players are pretty unique talents.

I feel like their size gets somewhat lost in the mix though, because their forwards are mostly small and their bigger players are also really good skaters. They do have monster core in place though with 6'7 Thompson, 6'6 Power, 6'4 Tuch, 6'4 Samuelsson, 6'3 Dahlin and 6'3 Cozens though.

Amazing what drafting in the lottery for 10 years can do...

That type of hockey at the very least is entertaining to watch. The style we play right now is so damn boring.

and if he outperforms, he's not going on waivers so all these guys should be safe. Johansen will be back down soon since Carlson is day to day. One of the forwards might stay a while

Yeah once those big boys get some veteran grit they're going to be a real load. Like Dahlin this year is starting to play his size and he's always had a bit of an edge.

Yeah that was my feeling too. Was like watching two different sports. Also fun to see Crosby & co get kinda dominated;)

Yikes. Sheary & Dowd lead the team with...3...even-stength goals through 11 games.

Ehhh...

EV Goals since the start of 2020-'21 season:

Ovechkin - 50
Sheary - 33
Wilson - 26
Dowd - 23
Eller - 23
Kuznetsov - 21
Sprong - 21
Hathaway - 21
Oshie is at 16 and Backstrom at 15.

Slow start for Ovie in that regard but otherwise this is how our team is now.

Those aren't exactly impressive quantities for 2+ seasons of EVG summed together. In just one season, Colorado had four players with 20+ EVG and 7 players with 18+ EVG last year. A "slow start" for Ovie is a big deal, because this team has very poor levels of even-strength offense outside of him.

Oh i know. The numbers are mostly terrible. Just pointing out that Sheary and Dowd being near the top isn't really a surprise, especially with Wilson out.
