Hopefully CMM feels wants to skill it up rather than scrum and get his hands dirty in a fight.

Honestly surprised they put CMM in. I guess I still just don't see the thought process.

Isn’t any chart with Carlson ranked highly immediately sus? (More for @twabby) than you.
Not necessarily. His even strength defense is among the worst on the team and the chart shows that. He makes up for it with his offense and PP generally. We tend to remember his worst gaffes though when we watch him but he still makes plays to drive offense at times that are likely less memorable, though it's still early to say his offense will make up for his defensive issues this year, guess we'll see!

McMic out: complain
McMic in: complain

reminds me of an ex-leper:

Or you realize they just had need of a 2nd line winger 2 or 3 games ago and they played Joe Snively over CMM. If 4 or 5 days ago you didn't think CMM was worth 2nd line minutes, why do you suddenly think he is now?

You can stick your head in the sand like many have but if you can't see that they seem to lack any sort of actual plan I don't know what to tell you. And I'm not going to not point it out because people have a problem with pointing out legitimate criticism with this staff.

Or they might make lineup decisions between ’extras based on who they feel might be ”hot”, or who has deserved it in the training field.

I dont mind criticism for the staff, but this is more ”seeing what you want to see”. They want to give chances for all of their ”young” players, not just for one.

Anyways. Another chance for CMM to show up. Hopefully he does, and in a way that makes him hard to pass for next game. CMM
breaking out would make our lives in this forum so much easier :)

This. The way they have handled McMichael or lack there of is a legit criticism that has merit. If you don’t see it, not sure what to say.

It isn’t that he isn’t playing in the NHL (at least IMO). It’s that he isn’t playing anywhere…he needs to play somewhere.

Well now it's McMic and Snively that will be battling for that sweater, and 1 of them's going to get it for the foreseeable future (unless they bring up Milano or make a trade)

Fans should know the RS is a marathon, a grind, and oppty's will come to get a sweater for the 13/14 F's but somehow many Caps fans can't see farther than their nose and think McMic has been ruined b/c he's had to < god forbid/gasp! > be patient while practicing with the big boys, traveling with them, making friends with them, and getting to continue to learn from them

Vast majority of CapsNation knew there'd be at least 1 or 2 injuries to fwds in the first few weeks and there'd be chances for the young bucks;
well the "long" (to some) 9 game wait is over ;)

That’s really your view? Because their plan doesn’t match up with what you like, or you can’t comprehend what they are doing, they have no plan? Oh brother….

Yeah. This whole thing has gotten a little hard to watch, with the 2nd guessing over an injury fill in/which young kid to play.

Everyone wanted Moar kids. So here we are. Oh, but not *the right* kids. So there they go.

If CMM is broken over a 4 week, little to be played, stretch with the big club, then he was meant to break.

Here is the GAR chart (vs. the xGAR @pman25 posted):

View attachment 601311

xGAR probably has more meaning right now because xG performs better in smaller sample sizes, though both need to be taken with big grains of salt right now because these are regression models designed to input a lot of data. Without large amounts of data the GAR elements are going to come with some pretty high errors this early in the season.

That said it's encouraging that Eller is playing well in particular along with Mantha, but I don't think this overall paints too optimistic a picture because their depth players (in general) have been very good while their stars have been the weak points over the past few years. Maybe that will change and again, the data is still pretty unreliable but I don't think many here think the team is being bolstered by their stars right now (except Kuemper if you want to consider him a star, which I do). We've seen the same formula of late and it's led to first round exits each year.

"Indefinitely" doesn't sound great. But again I don't see too much of a dropoff just because I don't see much of a dropoff between Oshie and, say, McMichael/Milano/whoever. They should be fine. The Carlson injury could be much more impactful if they don't adjust the power play properly.

Also put Nic Dowd in the bumper spot on the PP. He's a better option than Hathaway and he can win faceoffs.
that's at least two games now away from Carlson where Fehervary has been the Capitals' most valuable defensive presence

so for the meantime, uh.... neener neeners

What's the plan? Stop hiding behind the results and tell me what they actually intend to do. What do you think he's actually lacking besides time to develop?

How would I know what their plan is lol? Does that mean there isn’t one?

not sure he’s lacking anything that can’t be sewn up eventually and they’re bringing him along slowly since this is really what should be his rookie year.

Bottom line: CMM hasn’t seized his opportunities (Beck and Protas have).

I think we’ll see Sonny Milano sooner than later. Use that to send CMM down so he can play. I get there is stuff to learn staying with club and I have helped beat that drum. But just like last year with Lapierre, they comes a time to go play games and work on some things. I think that time has come for CMM.

I’d like to see Sonny. Maybe even Pilon. Give some others a chance Starting with Snively.

There have been 4 rookies that last two years that have established themselves as NHL’ers (Fever, Snively, Malenstyn, Protas). CMM is not one of them. He hasn’t done enough. I’d like to see him in Hershey now. But whining that the coaches wont gift him time is not about a high performance organization.
