Loved that guy. Poor man’s Avery who would actually drop the gloves. How about Darcy Verot?! Talk about a guy loving to get his face smashed in just to get into a fight. Haha.
I enjoyed this:

My wife was with me at a game where Verot slashed a rather much larger Todd Bertuzzi (pre-assault on Moore) in the back of the legs, and she said “why doesn’t Darcy just bite him”loved that little bastard
One of those bigHats? That’d be cool. I’d not even laugh, like I usually do at the bigHats I’ve seen.I want a g00n hat
Lavi isn’t getting fired he’ll play it out. Teddy isn’t going to want to pay another head coach even as interim. Not to mention it probably wouldn’t be a solid audition when you have a room full of disgruntled vets that are all pissy (their words) that they’re not in a playoff spot and seeing longtime teammates being traded and unloaded. The end of this season could still get uglier due to this.Look, I have advocated for Laviolette being fired, and I now have a different take, why would he want to stay?
He probably lobbied for a new deal, which now seems unlikely. I can imagine it’s pretty hard being a lame duck, knowing he is running out the string.
It’s also clear, some of our players seem to have quit.
Laviolette won’t quit, nor would anyone. But it seems like a Lose/Lose keeping him here. He’s not getting an extension, and the team isn’t really preparing for what is next.
A Win/Win would be letting him go, paying out his contract, and letting him get in line for another gig after the season ends. It would then give the team the chance to audition Nelson and the youth?
I know I get accused of harping on this, and that is fair. But it just doesn’t make any sense. We have blown it up, it’s over.
Curious to hear any and all opinions.

Learning how to play and win in the NHL? Seems to have some value. This + the locker room still seems to have love and respect for Lavi. Anyone stepping in 19 games will be there just to lose. If theres any serious intentions on promoting the guy from interim to regular, he will have started ”the wrong way”.
Since its already over, and since everyone loves Laviolette as a person, theres nothing pushing to make that change now. What can interim coach and couple young players gain from coming into a losing situation.
Key word here is win. This team is more playing out the string than winning at this point and they’re all pissed about it.Learning how to play and win in the NHL? Seems to have some value.
I would also like to see if Kuzy and Mantha can be resurrected by another
Uhhh..... Ovechkin?Tom Wilson is the best player on the team, by far.
I think Wilson is the better player at this point.Uhhh..... Ovechkin?
Yep, lots of 'intangibles' and pieces that go into putting together a team and making a player the right fit. Something the fancy stats people seem to ignore, although it may be more important than the analytics. Analytics are important but just one piece of the puzzle that is looked at.I think one of the biggest question(s) now is gonna be:
Cohesion
Chemistry
Camaraderaieieee
Coals(Goals)
Caring (til now, it was mainly looking at 92, might need to widen that lens soon)
- Orlov/Jensen was one of the main saving graces left
- Dowd/Hathaway was a proven fit and helped Caps 4th line to be one of the best the last several seasons
if the "retool" is going to have any success, a Top-6 scorer is obv. desperately needed, unless somehow Backi reverts to 2016 and Willy gets fused with some of OV's indestructoDNA
Caps/DC have developed a great culture for hockey and this team, it's going to be tested right quick and I hope everyone plays for each other to get back over the hump for the rest of the OV-era, we shall see
Not good for Fever and Jensen.
I wanted Lavi fired before this season, and at various points during this season. But there's no point in making a coaching change right now. They aren't going to make the playoffs. The trade deadline is now, and they've already determined their course for it, so there's no course correction to be made. The UFA dead weight is getting stripped off the team as fast as possible, and if they manage to trade Sheary or Smith (or NAK*) - Lavi will be forced to play at least one kid even when the roster is fully healthy (and this roster is not going to be fully healthy for many stretches). Unless they're committed to giving Todd Nelson an NHL trial run at the expense of Hershey's Calder Cup run, there's not really a scenario that makes sense to me to change coach at this point in the year. I would have love for the swap to be made in November or during their ice-cold January or even upto mid-February when there was still a chance they could turn things around. But that ship has sailed now.
*With Hatheway gone, I wouldn't mind keeping NAK on a 1-3 year deal as the new 4RW.
