I'd take Puljujarvi back just to see if he's a fit in the remaining 20 games or whatever, but his QO is a nonstarter.

I could see them not qualifying him and then signing him to something cheaper though if he works out.
Yeah if it’s Edmonton Puljujarvi has to move. I’d do it for 20 games and just not qualify him. Edmonton also has a 1st that should be around pick 20-24 and some good prospects they might move (Bourgault, Schaefer)

I hate losing Orlov I would rather they move someone else but I understand the reality of the cap. We have complained for a long time that there is no room for the younger players to develop. Well here you go AA. It’s time to prove you belong in the league.

Curious what the return is. Boston doesn't have their 2nds in 23 or 24, so I guess they're either gonna overpay with a 1st or we're gonna get some disappointing multiple low pick return.

Edit: They're getting Orlov too. Good news: we're almost certainly getting a 1st. Bad news: It's gonna be the last pick in the 1st.

That’s what I’m saying… no 2nds. They could definitely get a 2nd in this years draft for Hathaway so I’m curious

Holy f Boston, please tell me this return is good

Orlov is a f***ing trooper, man. Going to miss that dude playing elsewhere and having to watch the geriatrics still laboring around the ice. Extremely tough blow in the near-term. Hard to see how they'll realistically rebuild the defense in a manner that better positions them next season.
No one realistically expects any dramatic improvement next season.

I suspect the front office and ownership will have greatly overestimated the draw of Ovechkin and his goal pursuit minus much of any hopeful team success.

Nice to have some amount of theoretical flexibility and assets, presumably with more changes yet to come. But this is a length painful process to endeavor on if doing it the right way and not forcing shortcuts instead. Managing to shift gears to build back up again won't be easy and you wonder if they're still fully prepared to move out the dead weight with term left. You've presumably now got a lame duck coach. Pretty damn awkward situation in general.

They gotta fire Lavy and bring up the kids. Situation is untenable as is.

Good on them for selling even if the return isn’t what I hoped for. But keeping Laviolette around and playing plugs like Irwin, NAK, and McIlrath is not consistent with a retooling effort. Even Backstrom and Oshie should be resting up for next season.

What I wouldn't give to be a fly on the wall in Washington right now. I wanna know how the discussion with Ovi went, did they have one? Did they not discuss with the other players? Orlov's agent said he was shocked, does that mean they weren't aware at all? Was Boston the best offer, or was the agent lying and they discussed and they were trying to take care of the players when they were traded?

What I wouldn't give for a good media group around the Hockey team in Washington.

They've got to at least explore moving out players with term remaining. They've already taken a step back in intent. CapFriendly shows a mere $18M in projected cap space for another ten players needed to round out the roster. As-is the flexibility they've referenced is incredibly slight given all of those slots needing to be filled if they're not subtracting non-rentals at some point.

Young, fast and cheap is what we need. That needs to be the path forward.

Gmbm's statement is pretty clear to me. They're going to "retool" and not rebuild. They want to compete immediately next year.

Not sure exactly what that looks like wrt trades. Could be a lot of trades and then a lot of UFA signings along with a few call-ups, but it won't be a total tear-down.
