Anyone worried about retaining Orlov after an admittedly much younger Sergachev reupped with Tampa for an8-year term at $8.5M AAV? Short of trading Carlson or Oshie, I think retaining Orlov may be impossible.
I predicted long ago that this could be a window to move him this off-season. Otherwise it’s pay up or he walks probably.

If things go south this year (and they very well could with 19 and 43 out and other EC teams getting better), I could see us jumpstarting and potentially accelerating the rebuild at the deadline. Orlov and Brown could fetch firsts and Eller, Sheary and Jensen would likely also have good value. All expiring contracts.

If they let Orlov walk they’re f***ed. He’s their best all-around defenseman.
Not sure this group is a contender past next season (and perhaps not now). If things aren't going well and we can get a first for him at the deadline, would you do it?

The team/management clearly isn't ready to entertain a full-on rebuild at this juncture. They're going to do what they can to ensure their 2-3 games of playoff revenue and keep the guise of being somewhat competitive to justify Ovie's 894 chase.

There is absolutely no way they let Orlov walk.....He is easily our best defender all-around. They will maneuver money around to keep him around if need be, even if it means moving a guy like Oshie (even Carlson), etc.

How do people feel about trading Eller for "something good" and then putting Snively at 3C? From what i saw he seems like a speedy player with a nose for the net so might aswell try it i feel.

Not sure why they'd try and convert Snively from wing to center when they already have McMichael, Lapierre, and Protas.

I dont like it at all. CMM/Snively centering middle six is a plan for rebuilding team that has their eye on Bedard.

But obviously depends on whats ”something good”. What can you get in return that helps us more than having a cost effective 3C who can play up for short stints, while having a glaring hole at 2C. Draft pick? Count me out for the same reason as above, thats a rebuilding trade, which is totally opposite direction than what we have taken for the first day of FA by signing Kuemper and trading a 2nd for one year of Brown.

Trading Eller makes only sense after we get a real 2C. Either by Backy getting healthy (longshot) or by another trade. Then im fine giving the 3C for CMM and Snively to battle.

He’d get more than a first. Look at what Ben Chiarot got last year and he sucked.

In a hypothetical world where the Caps have no shot at the playoffs and Orlov tells them he won’t extend then sure, I’d look to trade him, but I don’t think either of those things are likely to happen.

Even in the case that we suck, Orlov loves this team, the city, and also Ovi + Kuzy. He has settled here over the last ten-plus years and was talking about how amazing it was to actually buy a family home in the area after his long-term contract was signed.

He deserves to 'break the bank', but, to me, he's a guy that appreciates long-term security and remaining with D.C. for his whole career over being able to match Sergachev's contract or other comparables.

He's going to get paid well regardless. He has gotten even better than he was when he was younger.

I predict another similar deal - 6 Years/$6 Million Per Year.

MAJO signing

This has to be about the Power Play. Takes Backstrom's spot on the PP, plus good at zone entries. Other then that :headache:

Now that we took care of needs in Free Agency, BMac/Lavi now needs to hire an Assistant Coach for the forwards/PK to replace Arniel leaving. Hershey also needs a goalie coach to continue bringing along Fucale and develop Clay Stevenson, as the Wings hired Westlund to be their new goalie coach. Anyone have some ideas what direction they could go with?

I was just listening to the Hockey PDOCast and they had on Kevin Woodley, who is a goaltending expert talking about the goalie carousel and other goaltending related items.

Anyways, he was in agreement about Kuemper at 5 x $5.25M being one of the best bets in free agency which doesn't come as a surprise. But what I thought was really noteworthy is that unprompted he talked about Charlie Lindgren and how he thinks he'll really stand out when he gets a chance.

It'll be interesting to see how the goaltending plays out. On paper Kuemper is a massive upgrade over the clowns in net last year. But if Lindgren is also a decent sized upgrade over both of the clowns in net last year Washington will have a good chance to finish higher up in the division instead of in a WC spot.

Yeah, the Blues had their tandem locked in last year, and Montreal rode Price for as many as 66 games per season for years before that with Niemi and Allen in the system. The year he played 14 games for the Habs, Price got lit up for a 3.11 GAA and .900 as the starter.

He stood out everywhere he played through 2017, then tapered off playing for brutal teams. No draft pedigree, and being a standout at St. Cloud isn't all that telling. So it's certainly possible that Lindgren has just flown under the radar. It's a no-risk contract, and nothing's stopping us from burying it or trading him, so the door is open to make a move for a backup if it doesn't work out.

No reason not to be optimistic about him. The price is right -- all the known quantities at that rate are pretty weak. At least there's potential upside with him...

As a 45 year old man, soon to be 46, seeing 29 years old as old makes me laugh and cry at the same time.
I'm the same age as Ovi...few months apart and e everyone talking about him like he's headed for the retirement homes makes me sad lol
