Dress Bitetto, Geersten and Thompson (call ups). But this falls on JD, Gorton and Quinn. They knew they were not physical enough and now you either fight fire with fire or you hide behind the refs. This wasn't just the Wilson thing, it's been happening all year.

This is a joke, if the Rangers and Quinn do nothing to answer this then they are an embarrassment and everyone in management needs to to go.
The bigger joke is that someone bought my tickets for Wednesday. At a 100% premium. I listed them out of anger and did not expect them to go, but go they did.

Sadly, yes.

I suppose people have to put their disgust and hatred and blame somewhere. In 30 years of watching hockey, blaming OUR coach for another team's POS injuring our players is new to me. The irrational disdain for Quinn is strong - it reminds me of the Obama hate - the old joke, Fuc*ing Obama for all of ones' life problems.

No coach is perfect - I think Quinn has done a great job the last two years all said and done.

Now, I am VERY disappointed in the lack of any kind of physical response from our team when the "going gets tough." I think that is much more telling of the makeup of the team. No one is getting Chytil or Zbad to throw hits out there. I am so embarrassed as a Rangers fan this morning though.

Because they are the rating cows.

And the league just gave me a perfect example today.

Also, how long of a leash was Matt Cooke allowed?

Or Crosby slamming Subban's head into the ice 8-9 times?

Are the ratings really higher for those two teams? Never seen those stats.

Sit the whole team and call up the Wolfpack. The AHL guys are hungry to prove themselves and will be certainly willing to drop the gloves to impress Quinn. No need to have our young guys get potentially injured in these meaningless games

Brendan Smith is a 32 year old with no history of suspensions or violent play, doesn't have the skill to keep up with/catch Backstrom and doesn't even know if he has a job beyond June. What 'message' are we really expecting him to send, and why is he going to send it if he thinks it will jeopardize his career?

I get the desire to retribution, I really do, but it's not happening in any meaningful way. The players can't police this themselves without horrendous consequences, the issue here is that you have a player working outside of how the League expects to the rules to be followed. Suspension where meant to be the ultimate deterrent but for some people it clearly doesn't work. It's up to them to fix the rules

It's not about retribution at all. Hockey is about time and space. When other teams impose their physical will on you, you must push back. You must preserve time and space. Once there was no meaningful push back the team fell apart. We lacked the gumption to take away their time and space and claim ours. It happened all over the ice. Hathaway literally pushed Miller after he scored and Miller did nothing. Not even a shove or anything. And Hathaway laughed. I can't think of a single sport where ceding territory to your opponent is a positive. Unfortunately between our current injured players and the fact that the team lacks a big physical tough force in our top 6 means we are left with Brendan Smith and whoever we call up from HFD.

Again, forget Wilson. If the league won't protect its stars, its an open invitation to 2 hand chop backstrom, ovechkin and carlson across the wrists every time they are on the ice. Somebody breaks a wrist and misses the playoffs? Oh well, wouldn't have happened if the NHL just handled its bussiness.

I like how they only mention Buchnevich and totally ignore Panarin. f***ing dolts.

We better chop some ankles and wrists off tomorrow.

Yeah, it's pretty incredible. Wilson is a repeat offender too. To let him off like this is more than blatant. The NHL is sending a clear message with this decision. There's no such thing as bad PR apparently, and goons clearly appeal to certain people. This decision is basically opening up head hunting season right before the play offs. The NHL is cowardly, money grabbing and weak. There are plenty of players whose lives have been ruined permanently by goons like Wilson.

There would be serious sanctions from the NHL if they did this. Like- losing first round pick sanctions.

Actually, the Rangers can do better than this. The Rangers and Leafs financially support the rest of the league with the way revenue sharing works. If they want to exert pressure on the NHL all that needs to happen is for James Dolan to call up Gary Bettman and tell him if you can't protect my 80m investment -- I won't support your whole f'in league. We won't be sharing our revenue until something is done.

f*** this league, I will gladly wear a Blueshirt on Wednesday if the Rangers seek some justice. Thats how disgusted I am of what I saw yesterday. Just happened to flip on the Ranger game while my Devils weren’t doing good and saw that whole sequence. Been absolutely pissed since.

Except it won't happen and it's ehat the NHL is hoping for. Controversy sells. Tomorrow they're expecting great ratings as people turn in to see what happens... and they know nothing will.

Smith going after Wilson will just be for show, will accomplish nothing. Dog and pony show.

Dress Geertsen and tell him to "go to the net" and when he gets there, forget to stop. Send a message by saying hi to their goalie right before they start the playoffs and maybe they'll get it.

I honestly don't see that as any more ethical than what Wilson did, why not go after Wilson or will he not play?

Then why have they gone the way of the dinosaur?

You want skilled players who can stand up for themselves, not a grizzly bear on ice skates.
Sure. Like I said no goons but an enforcer who can play AND stick up for his fellow team mates.

It seems like the teams that win the cup have a few of these players

The makeup of the team is a bit off, but when they selected all of the kids seems to have been the right time. It's hard to acquire elite skill, but the Rangers have done that. Acquiring sandpaper is much easier.

A high percentage of fans hate their team's coach. It's a given. It's easier than blaming players and I always thought it to be lazy thinking. The truth is that as fans we don't know much about the relative attributes of most coaches.

It reminds me of the similar lazy thinking many fans attribute to a player that hasn't won a Cup. Hasek is easily the best goaltender I've ever seen, yet many used to say he never won a Cup, so he can't be great. Then he got one with Detroit at the end.

Same thing happened with Ray Bourque. A truly great defenseman. Didn't win a thing until he went to Colorado.

This is a landmark happening for both the team (1) and the league (2).

1. The team did not have much to play for these last games, so vets/leaders coasting a bit was understandable. Their biggest star and another top 6 player where both targeted in potential very dangerous situations. How will the vets/leaders respond? Will they respond at all? Will they think that having a 3. pairing d-man (Smith) fighting Wilson be enough to make sure these situation will not happen again in the future? Or will they use this next unimportant game to send a message to the Caps and the rest of the league that this is not accepted?

2. It is enough with 1 crazy SOB in the game for someone to get seriously injured. These 2 situations had high enough chance of being very dangerous that the DOPS should want them gone from the game. A 5k fine will not to that. What will the teams of the league do about this? Will we see more Cooke type of players in the next seasons? Will it be accepted to have rats hunting down other team star-player? Old-school goons really never stopped them. Will DOPS stop it before a player get his career ruined? it might be only Wilson for now, but if he gets away with fines even as repeated offender it might lead to a arms-race for similar players. Every team without a player or two mad enough to potential put your star out of the game may en up defenseless.

When Devils and Islanders fans are on the side of Rangers players and only Caps fans are defending Wilson, that's the definition of delusion. Caps fans are a cesspool of human garbage, I've already said this.

Quinn is not responsible for the roster. It's given to him.
