Don't think this is correct. I just re-watched those goals. Rags 2nd (1st of the 3rd period) was the 4th line. Rags 3rd was Kuzy, Ovi Oshie but Kuzy made a nice pass to Oshie who then passed to no one at all and the Rags then scored while Kuzy was no where near the play ( he was on his man who was outside the blueline). Rags 4th (3rd of the period) was Eller Vrana Sprong. Last one was empty net.

You're right, it was only one of the 3 as I had the ENG switched with one of the others when viewing the shift chart, but still the ice time point stands.

Kuzy got plenty of time in the third. Still blew the lead.

So that at least gets a "boo"

This system doesn’t seem to focus as much on physical play. Caps of the past got scored on typically of the you hold your breath from seeing that point shot tip a few times and go in. Now I’m seeing more teams just make plays on the caps because they don’t fear getting run over as much. Guys are posting up for clean one timers too much for my liking.

IMO this is because the man-defense system they're running is working when the playing field is level and everyone's fresh, but once the geezers get tired and the other team starts pressing it falls to shit.

They kick ass in the 2nd period when it comes to goal differential. Maybe they should race out to a big lead and then Trotz-turtle with more of a trap/zone defense in the 3rd. Done. Cup. Next.

I think they’re doing exactly that....trying to figure out some lockdown defensive scheme for late in games.
Agree. And lately, IINM, it's worked pretty ok against everyone but NYR. What I worry about is the Panthers- and Avalanche-type teams that are young and fast like the Rangers but play a much better brand of hockey than does NY.

this team doesnt fare well against young skilled fast teams. thankfully, we only have one in the division. If the rangers miss we could easily go far in the playoffs but once we hit the semi finals idk

There is a lack of edge lately as well. That goal Fox had..he should’ve ate some ice for skating right up the gut. I felt like watching these Rangers games that they could be pounding guys like Zibanjad and Panarin thus making them less effective. Kind of how they seem to do to Tampa and Pittsburgh every time. Feels like a lack of respect thing where they don’t feel like getting up for every team.

Hard to put a guy on the ice when he’s two strides ahead of his defender (Ovie in this case). The acceleration of teams like the Rangers and Devils put the Capitals on their back foot, literally and figuratively. Harder to dominate the ice when you’re playing catch-up.

Hard to heavy game and slow the opponent when you fear suspension in every hit.
This. IMO other teams know this too and now are using it to their advantage. Guys making plays and dangles all over the ice. Getting in their faces and laughing it off on the bench. This team isn’t playing to the identity in which it’s built. I think they can turn that on in the playoffs though.

Do it after the play then lol. Piss them off and make them play the different style of game. Those young players might start making mistakes. They are not giving Fox the Girardi welcome like we’re used to seeing.

Playoffs should be a different sport and Caps players will be ready to push the physical side to the top. Should be. I think the legend of Ovechkin will have more weight than Wilson the beast fear.

I really feel like if Panarin had a Malkin jersey on they’d respect him more and get nasty. Panarin is quiet and doesn’t get rough so I feel like guys lay off him league wide. Even Kucherov who still produces a ton but look at what he goes through sometimes. Breadman gets all day to chill in front of the net.

Settle down, Dale Hunter.
Nice. I just don’t take too kindly letting other teams think this division is up for grabs.

I love the team but I’d just like to see them gap up better whenever they get a lead. We all know those exact moments where we say oh no and the play leads to a goal. I’m not 100% confident this team can stop anyone when they absolutely need to.

Feels like since that Boston game when it got chippy and they ended up blown out is when the team decided to not play that way.

I think if there is lasting damage to Oshie delivered in Wilson's face, that he cant just throttle back because the league is going to continue with that kind of attack. We know the league isnt going to protect Caps players. We already have a track record on that subject

well yes, he will and should do his job and protect teammates like always, but for now, I’d tone down the massive hits some. He’s adjusted fine before..
