Don’t care if we acquire anyone, I just want Panik gone.

If we got rid of him, without adding assets, it would be a minor miracle.

Watching the Bruins and Flyers flail around this year makes me think how spoiled we are. I know no one cares about the regular season, but the Caps have been mostly excellent for what, 14 years now? With just a few dips.

That's across two GMs and a handful of coaches. That's incredible in this era. The Hawks and Kings rose and fell during this stretch, and are now in that mediocre middle. I'm jealous of their multiple Cups of course, but let's appreciate what we've got.

Who hates Kuzy? Guys wanting him to perform like hes paid to. We look at talent and see him not doing the work.

Having Hall on the wing is not the same.
Ive read 100s of trade Kuzy for peanuts posts this season and the same people want Taylor Hall who is prob the biggest loser and not give a shit player in the NHL

Since Ov's first game the Caps have the 3rd best record in the league. Since the Caps first playoff season, 07-08, they have the best record in the league. The Caps have played the 5th and 4th most playoff games in those two periods of time.

Hundreds of trade Kuzy for peanuts? What is your definition of peanuts? IIRC these trade Kuzy posts come from Kuzy not playing well. The broadcast crew and Alan May and Laviolette have confirmed their POV that he was not playing well. That not playing well Kuzy is one people talk about trying to do something with. Right?

How do you watch Hall play while presumably having at least a month long understanding of the sport and come to that conclusion

It feels like Boston's ownership and management punted the Covid season. That has to be the greenest defense in the NHL despite a ton of good D available for peanuts this offseason, and their forwards beyond their top 3 are filler caliber

Best I’ve seen Kuzy the last ten or so games since the Cup run. Hope it sticks because he’s absolutely elite when on.
Yeah i would rather be wringing my hands over kuzy then say the issues a lot of teams have. The Blues for example and Tarasenko. Since their cup he has played 19 games and scored 4 goals. This in what is supposed to be his prime years.

Man, would I love Garland....I’d be willing to pay a premium for him.

@Hivemind Would you pull the trigger on a 1st+AP/AA, just out of curiosity? Trying to gauge his value. Salaries lining up aside (which is easier because CG’s cap hit is so low).

Hey guys ive been folloqing sprong for a couple years and he always played pretty well offensively, showed some intentions on defense although not the greatest... but ive always felt he hasnt been given a very good chance.m to establish himself in the line up. How is it going now ? Is considered’full time’ ? Thanks

Still too early to say. He was effectively benched in the third period with a couple others when the bench was shortened. He's still not trusted much at all defensively. But he's producing, has some pace and handles and is signed cheap. They certainly should look to maximize his strengths ala Connolly and keep him in the lineup. Sheary-Eller-Sprong looks a lot more dangerous on paper than Panik in over one of those two Ws. If nothing else Sprong could perhaps to cashed in on at the deadline if they're still not sold. I don't think he's done enough to be a regular just yet but that's more to do with Laviolette's stylistic preferences than anything. IMO he has easily been better than both Panik and Sheary lately. Part of it's getting a chance with skilled players but with other options like Vrana and Oshie not playing all that great themselves it would be wise to have Sprong as an option in the lineup as needed.

How many rws do we need at this point

And as good as garland looks I wonder if his size will be an issue in the playoffs

Ideally, Panik is on the way out IMO to open up $$ to bring in another top-nine forward.

I'm not sure how they can fit Garland beyond this season (he's an RFA due for a chunky raise), given they are already in a cap crunch. It's also really hard to benchmark the Capitals against other top teams this season, because they're essentially playing in four separate leagues.

Spoiler alert, Kuzy was playing well the whole time, and continues to do so. People just see few points in the box cars and assume he's not trying, while scoffing at those who told you (correctly) the points would come sooner or later.

Nice
I have an idea.

Instead of giving Ovechkin a 4x$12M contract (or letting him go to Seattle as a FA). Why don't we offer him 8x$8M? Eight years are alot. But it gives us precious Cap space in the next Allin years. We all know, we will go into rebuild when the Ovi era is off. We loose nothing in doing so. He will go for the Gretzky record and sell the tickets.

It would be a 35+ contract so we’d be on the hook for the whole thing if he breaks the record before the contract ends.
