Backstrom says his hip is good now. Even given this opportunity, you at best say you are not sure which is better. We have a point per game center who is not a 1c. ok.
Not to sound cold, but who cares if it's good now when it doesn't matter? If he's on his way to being healthy during the next season then great. The important thing with him is will it stay that way or will it become a problem again in the near future?

As a fan looking at next year….I care how he’s feeling now lol.

if you’re seeking a guarantee he won’t be injured or dinged come next playoffs, who can give that?

First of all, he didn't have surgery. Secondly, he has returned to his off season training schedule on time. Whether it becomes chronic is something we cant know til it does.

Suter - Carlson would be an interesting combo. No real speed but a ton of talent and IQ would certainly make up for that. He would also be a great mentor to Fehervary.
Wasn’t Chara supposed to be the mentor for Fehervary? How many mentors does he need? Unless we lose Dillon in expansion, let’s just play Fehervary already, slot him in! Don’t really see a need for Suter if it bumps Fever

Suter-Jensen would be strong.
Suter-Schultz would be a nice mix of skating and skill
I still like Orlov with Carlson.

No. Chara took Fehervary's roster spot.

This postseason he also went scoreless in 3 games after contracting COVID-19 for a second time. He could have played better, but after a lengthy absence with no practice and his conditioning likely poor I tend to not weigh those 3 playoff games too heavily.

So he gets a pass for contracting COVID again, leaving him poorly conditioned for the playoffs and his team in another lurch? Jesus... If you're going to apply your criticism and logic this arbitrarily, how can you expect to make a meaningful point?

Do you understand what Cali means when she says his "give-a-shit quotient" is poor? No one cares how Backstrom compares to Kuznetsov in a one-dimensional view of a single advanced stat. The bigger issue is that one guy is a great, all-situations center and the other guy is an asshole.

All I'm hearing from you is that Backstrom is past his sell-by date and, hey, if you close your left eye and squint your right eye and hop up and down on one leg, Kuznetsov is the 1C Backstrom can't possibly be anymore.

In fairness, you're looking at some of the right numbers and occasionally bringing up some real concerns, but the conclusions you're jumping to are ridiculous.

I suggest you stop assuming everyone else is too stupid to see what you're doing.

There is no hidden message. This isn’t the hit movie series National Treasure, where words are not what they mean but rather clues to be deciphered in order to discover the true meaning.

I am posting opinions that are to be taken at face-value. There’s no need to dig for subtext.

Do you know how he got COVID-19 for a second time? I don’t. And I generally don’t fault people for contracting a disease, especially a disease as contagious as COVID-19. He could have caught it from a fellow teammate or opposing player or coach or referee on the ice as far as we know, rather than on a New York City bender as people here seem to be concluding.

I don’t think it’s particularly controversial to say that Kuznetsov’s ceiling is higher than Backstrom’s, especially at this point in their careers. I’m not even arguing that Kuznetsov’s effort over the years has been good. It’s a perfectly valid critique and one reason I want him traded for a player with big upside and more consistency. I just don’t want him traded for a player with low upside because the team needs a big upside 1C, given the deficiencies of the rest of the roster.

Has there been any indication when we can expect a schedule for next regular season?
7/22.

Sweet 16: Will Blues make a pick in first-round, or trade it?
A first-rounder might also be used in any Tarasenko trade package. At this point, Tarasenko is thought to be drawing interest from Boston, the New York Rangers and Washington — with the New York Islanders also on the radar.
FWIW.

Friedman did mention Washington as a possibility for Suter on the 31 Thoughts podcast but I tend to think he gets a better offer elsewhere.

Kuznetsov confirms latest absence was due to testing positive for COVID-19 again

Now you do.

Do you need the team to come right out and tell you he and Samsonov broke protocol again? Or can you figure that out for yourself given the fact that nobody else on the team has had this problem and they've been disciplined for it before?

Ditch Dillon, sign Suter, promote Feverbaby.

If Suter comes in much cheaper than Dillon then I'm certainly for this plan as part of a grander scheme to land that impact center. However I would caution that there's not too much daylight between Brenden Dillon and Ryan Suter in terms of overall impact so this move alone wouldn't really move the needle much IMO.

Ok fine. Use some common sense then.

Common sense suggests that a person being in the faces of a bunch of heavily respiring athletes, having shouting coaches behind their heads, and in the presence of thousands of drunken fans for large periods of time over the course of several months could reasonably contract COVID-19 for a second time.
