Not much there. He theorizes that a lack of buzz around a Kuznetsov trade may mean they've have softened on a trade. Maybe he's just not hearing it or they're being patient. Much is on hold until after expansion when they'll know who needs replacing. No one needs off-season surgery. Anderson won't be back. There will be a week-long rookie camp prior to main camp.

That is pretty much what I was expecting. Nothing new. No leaks. Not surprised about Anderson. He did earn his check, though.

Not a lot in the update that honestly isn’t being discussed here. Anderson won’t be back. Suter could be of interest but only if it was a Lundqvist/Chara type deal. Coaches and management liked Raffl but will have to see how the off-season goes and what his asks are in order for there to be a possibility of bringing him back. Caps are also planning a week long rookie camp leading into training camp this year.

Biggest piece of news that people may/will find disappointing is that TEB expects no changes to the coaching staff at this point which obviously will not go over well here when it comes to the PP.

I recognize the lynch mob for Forsythe around here but I am not sure what people expect from that power play? They adjusted it to successfully start to pull the pk off of Ovechkin and returned the pp to top 5 ranking in the league. In the playoffs who in PP1 was not injured and showing it?

Secondly, there is a reasonable case to be made that because Forsythe stays from one head to another over and over again, that he provides something that can't be replaced. My guess is that based on his background he is able to do every coach's work and is able to assist everyone depending on needs. Its not clear at all to me what his role on the pp is. Is he the creator and designer of it or is he following directions from someone else?

Can’t imagine is he creating much, though maybe he is. Oates was the one that brought the iteration of Ovechkin Island to DC. My big issues with Forsythe are that they’re perfectly set up to be like the Lightning now with Mantha’s one time ability filling the Kucherov role which could open up even more space for Ovi but we haven’t seen that yet and their zone entries are repetitive, not creative, and ineffective. We’ll see if a full off-season changes anything. He seems to think talent will overcome scheme and it doesn’t always work that way.

What a train wreck this board has become these past few weeks. I can tolerate the narcissist and troll posts from time to time, but they've now beome pervasive to the board. Time to look for the ignore button.
Imagine having to read all of this nonsense and not being able to use the ignore button.

The only way you blame Forsythe for adjustments and zone entry planning is if he is the primary source of that strategy. Lets say that he is for this conversation. Kucherov is primarily a puck mover on the TB PP. He is an obvious 3rd shooting option and is the primary puck handler along with Hedman. Very much like Backstrom and Carlson. Backstrom just can't shoot it like Kucherov and Mantha can't pass it anything like Backstrom. They key is quick and smooth rotation of Backstrom down and Mantha up for a shot and the another rotation. TB doesnt have to do that.

At the same time when teams began taking Ovechkin away, they were also at the same time taking Oshie's bumper shot away. They found a change that worked by moving Oshie up the slot and playing for high deflections rather than one time shots. That worked enough to get the Caps back into the top 5 and started to force pk's to give up Ov coverage. Ov's ppg numbers surged.

I am not sure who gets credit for that or blame for the other thing. With a proper training camp we may more of Mantha shooting the one timer. What is I see is that the basics of the Caps pp are locked in unless you want to see the Caps walk away from their best weapons. If the league can force the Caps to take Ovechkin out of his office, they will have won.

I would love to know sometime what Forsythe does to earn him the ability to remain an assistant thru 5 different head coaches.

None of what you said has anything to do with zone entries…

TBF, when threads get hijacked by trench-warfare-style pissing contents (in which no progress is made on either side, and the entire thread gets drowned in said piss), putting the involved posters on your ignore list renders the thread absolutely unreadable. At that point, the better option is just to take a break from the board for a few days until the piss storm passes over.

There needs to be a "THUNDERDOME" thread, and when people get carried away they duke it out in there until they work it out or calm down.

There's some really interesting stuff going on in the league atm, but the drama just sweeps away any attempt to talk about it.

I keep opening this thread expecting to see some new and exciting arguing, and all I see is endless complaining about arguing!

That idiot Dick Patrick is probably the one who keeps Forsythe around with every coach!
